Lateran Regesta, Vol. CCC (fn. 1)

14 Martin V (cont.)

De Dignitatibus Vacantibus

1430.
2 Kal. Dec.
SS. Apostoli, Rome.
(f. 68.)
To the abbots of St. Mary's and St. Thomas the Martyr's and the prior of All Saints, by Dublin. Mandate to collate and assign to John Ardagh, perpetual vicar of Athboy in the diocese of Meath, I.U.B., priest, who has studied theology for several years at Oxford, the chancellorship of the church of Dublin, a non-major, non-elective dignity without cure, value not exceeding 80 marks, so long void, because Robert Dyck, archdeacon of Dublin, obtained, when holding the chancellorship, the said archdeaconry, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see, although John Ysac, priest, of the said diocese, who is to be summoned and removed, has detained possession for about two years under pretext of a collation made to him, by his ordinary authority, by archbishop Richard, who was then under sentence of excommunication; whether it be void as stated, or by the death of John Ludington, or in any other way, and notwithstanding that John holds the said vicarage, value not exceeding 30 marks, with which he is hereby dispensed to hold the chancellorship for two years. Litterarum etc. (An. xxx. Quarto Non. Januarii Anno Quartodecimo. de Adria.)
3 Kal. Jan.
SS. Apostoli, Rome.
(f. 84d.)
To the provost and Thomas Obrind, canon, of Tuam, and Cornelius Odubgilla, canon of Kilmacduagh. Mandate as below. Recently (on its being set forth to the pope on behalf of William Bremugay, priest, of the diocese of Tuam, that he formerly received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice with or without cure, and subsequently, having been tonsured in virtue of the said dispensation, to hold the archdeaconry of Tuam, by the same letters whereby provision thereof was ordered to be made to him; after which latter dispensation he obtained, collated to him by papal authority, the said archdeaconry and afterwards obtained successively, without other dispensation on account of his said defect, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, the rectories of Dunmor and Ahatnary in the said diocese, all which he held together for eight years against Execrabilis, still detaining the archdeaconry) the pope rehabilitated him, requiring him to resign the archdeaconry. The pope now orders the above three to collate and assign to William, upon his duly resigning, the same, a non-major non-elective dignity, value not exceeding 12 marks, whether it be void as aforesaid, or because John de Burgo, then a secular priest, entered and made his profession as a canon of the Augustinian monastery of St. Mary, Cong, in the said diocese, or in any other way. He is hereby specially dispensed to hold it. Vite etc. (An. xxviii. Idus Januarii Anno Quartodecimo. de Adria.) [See above, p. 89.]

De Regularibus

5 Kal. Dec.
SS. Apostoli, Rome.
(f. 137)
To Master John de Obizis, auditor of causes of the apostolic palace, the pope's nuncio in England. Mandate, the pope having learned that Cistercian monasteries etc. in the realm, exempt from the jurisdiction of the diocesans, are in need of reform, to repair thither, if possible with the diocesan of the place, visit them in head and members, and make the needful correction and reform. He is to deprive no one, but is to report to the pope cases requiring deprivation. Ad ecclesiarum et monasteriorum. (Ja. Gratis de mandato domini nostri pape. Aprutin.)
1430.
Non. Dec.
SS. Apostoli, Rome.
(f. 142d.)
To the bishop of Raphoe, the abbot of St. Mary's, Assaroe (Sameria), in the diocese of Raphoe, and the official of Raphoe. Mandate to collate and assign to Nemeas Magleomain, Cistercian monk of St. Mary's, Assaroe, the sacristship thereof, value not exceeding 3 marks, void by the death of Gilbert Maccarmaic, monk of the same, summoning and removing Cormac Ocuilenan, also monk of the same, who intruded himself by his own temerity and has detained it without any title between three and four years; whether it be void as above, or by the deprivation of Donald Orabartaid by authority of the ordinary, or in any other way. Religionis zelus, vite etc. (An. xx. Nono Kal. Januarii Anno Quartodecimo. de Adria.)
