Mandate (at the petition of Patrick Stephani, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, containing that he and John de Dalchet, priest, agreed to exchange their respective benefices, namely the parish church of Penikuke and the perpetual vicarage of Lesewade in the said diocese, the latter of which is of greater value than the former, on condition that they should continue to receive for life the fruits of their said respective benefices, even after the exchange should be effected; that the exchange was carried out by bishop Henry, to whom Patrick took oath that there was no fraud or simony or other unlawful compact on his part, and who was ignorant of the above compact; and that Patrick has held possession of the said rectory for six months) to absolve Patrick from excommunication incurred and from the crime of perjury, enjoining a penance, rehabilitate him and dispense him on account of irregularity. Prolongation by five years of the period of seven years, the end of which is at hand, for which he, who is of noble birth, received papal dispensation to hold with Yelvertoft, value 60 marks, which church he still holds, any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if another parish church or a perpetual vicarage or a dignity etc., and to resign both meanwhile, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, and hold two similar or dissimilar benefices, even if parish churches, but not major or principal dignities etc., with the condition of exchanging within the said period one of such benefices for another one compatible with the one retained or, if not, of resigning such other; after which dispensation he obtained the deanery of Blofelde in the diocese of Norwich, resigned it after about four months, and obtained the parish church of Abyndon alias Abyngdon in the diocese of Lincoln, value not exceeding 30 marks, which he has held with Yelvertoft for five years. Absolution, dispensation on account of irregularity, and rehabilitation on account of his having, following the common opinion of the realm of Scotland, adhered to Benedict XIII even after the definitive sentence of the Council of Constance against him; of his having, in ignorance of the decree by which the said realm gave its obedience to the present pope, repaired as envoy of Robert, duke of Albany, governor of the realm, to the said Benedict, from whom as soon as he heard of the said decree he departed, without finishing his business, and returned to Scotland; and of his having subsequently paid to Edward de Lawedre, priest, of the said diocese (to whom the pope granted provision, see above, p. 136, of the parish church of Liston in the same diocese, which Andrew held as he still does, as being void by Andrew's adhesion etc., as above), a sum of money in order that Edward should, as he has this day done to the pope, give up the said grant.
