To Cormac [Macdavid, as twice mentioned in the text of the letter.] Provision of the Cistercian abbey of Boyle (de Buellio) in the diocese of Elphin, the net value of whose abbatial mensa does not exceed 10 marks, which abbey was reserved to the pope during the abbotship of Eugenius Macdonchaid, formerly monk thereof, and to which afterwards—on its becoming void by the deprivation for his demerits of Eugenius by Henry, abbot of Mellifont in the diocese of Armagh, acting by authority of Matthew, abbot of Clairvaux, the father-abbot of Boyle—the said Henry appointed Cormac to be abbot, being a monk of Boyle and in priest's orders, and the son of an abbot of the Cistercian order and an unmarried woman, and having already canonical dispensation to hold all dignities of his order on account of his being the son of a priest religious and an unmarried woman, no mention therein being made, however, of the abbatial dignity.
