On reaching the age of puberty, they expressly renounced the marriage, which was never consummated. Mandate to proceed according to legal process to place John de Reghoton in possession of the church of Weston-on-Trent, which he obtained on the death of Henry de Beron, and about which he litigated against Robert called ‘Hugh de Neweton,’ on whose death Thomas de Bredon took up the cause. John, however, got a sentence against Thomas and obtained possession, but after a short time Thomas again despoiled John of the said church. John, however, regained possession and held it for some considerable time with great tribulation. While John and his
brother Robert were sitting at table in the manse, Thomas and his accomplices came and killed Robert, and severely wounded John, and thereafter made an exchange of the said church for a benefice in Ireland with Simon de Pontefracto, who is to be removed from Weston. |

Mandate, at the request of king Edward and queen Philippa, to grant a dispensation to Richard, earl of Arundel, and Eleanor, daughter of Henry, earl of Lancaster, to remain in the marriage which they contracted on Saturday in Sexagesima last. Richard had a son by Isabella de Despenser, who is related to the said Eleanor in the second, third, and fourth degrees. A mandate was issued to the bishop of Chichester to grant a dispensation, but as it is now discovered that the parties are related also in the fourth degree of kindred on both sides, a further dispensation is necessary. They are to be separated for a time, and then absolved and dispensed. Three chaplaincies, as directed in the former mandate, are to be founded and endowed by them in Richard's castle of Arundel, wherein they intend to found others. [Cal. Pet. i. 99.] |
