Bullarum Liber LIX.
7 Innocent VIII.
1491. 5 Kal. June. (28 May.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 197r.) |
To the dean, the archdeacon, and the treasurer of Cork. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that a canonry of the church of Ross and the prebend called [the prebend] de Insula alias Ynisduny therein, and the perpetual vicarage of the parish church de Insula alias Ynisduny, in the diocese of Ross, have been so long void that by the Lateran statutes their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although John Chega (? recte Ohega) and Donatus [O]Donowayn, priests, (fn. 2) of the said diocese, have for some years detained possession of the said canonry and prebend and vicarage, respectively, without any title or right. The pope, therefore, at the recent petition of James Ydonowayn, clerk, of the said diocese (who notwithstanding his illegitimacy, as the son of a clerk and an unmarried woman, has been made a clerk, and to whom by other letters of the pope provision was recently ordered to be made of the precentorship of the said church of Ross, a non-major dignity, and the union to be made thereto for his lifetime of the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Chillintyan (?) in the said diocese, and who was dispensed to receive and retain the said precentorship and annex), hereby orders the above three to summon the said John and Donatus, and to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend de Insula, yearly value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to the said James, and to unite and appropriate thereto for as long as he shall hold them, the said vicarage de Insula, value not exceeding 7 marks, inducting him, and removing the said John and Donatus. The pope further specially dispenses him to receive and retain the said canonry and prebend, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Apostolice sedis providentia circumspecta. Id. June. (13 June.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. [217]r. (fn. 3) ) |
To Roger Tochet, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Leyuesham in the diocese of Rochester (Roffen.). Collation, etc., as below. His recent petition contained that formerly, when holding the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Leysueshan [sic] in the diocese of Rochester, he obtained the parish church of St. George, Belrahan [sic], (fn. 4) in the said diocese, in virtue of a presentation by the lay patron, and an institution by authority of the ordinary, and has detained it and the said vicarage together for about eight months, without any dispensation, against Execrabilis, and still detains them, taking the fruits de facto. The said vicarage being therefore void by the obtaining of the said church of St. George, and the church of St. George being void by the said constitution, the pope, rehabilitating the said Roger, and specially annulling (derogantes) the said right of patronage for this turn only, makes him collation and provision of the said vicarage and church, the yearly value of each not exceeding 24 gold florins of the Camera; with mandate executory hereby to the bishops of Glandèves and Orte (Glandacen. et Ortan. episcopis), and John Baptista de Ferrariis, a canon of Modena. The pope further specially dispenses him to receive and retain for life the said church and vicarage, and with one of them any one other benefice, and without them any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and receive and retain instead, also for life, two other incompatible benefices. Sedes apostolica pia mater. [3½ pp. In the margin at the end: ‘Jul(ii).’] |
7 Id. July. (9 July.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 268r.) |
To Walter Abirnethi, provost of the church of Du[n]bretan in the diocese of Glasgow. Reservation (in consideration of the services which he has rendered and continues to render to John Abirnethi, rector of the parish church of Tanadas in the diocese of St. Andrews, to whom, suffering from old age and madness, (fn. 5) he was appointed coadjutor, first by authority of the ordinary, and afterwards by papal authority) of the said church of Tanadas, yearly value not exceeding 35l. sterling, for collation to him on its becoming void by the resignation or death of the said John, the pope hereby making him collation and provision of the same; with mandate executory to the abbot of Holyrood in the diocese of St. Andrews, the chancellor of Glasgow, and John Baptista de Ferrariis, a canon of Modena, to induct him. Grata per te dilecto filio Johanni Abirnethi … hactenus impensa obsequia. [7¾ pp. In the margin at the end: ‘Julii.’] |
