St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 127v.)
To the archdeacon of Clonfert, and Donatus Ohuran and Odo Macghicayn, canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Eugenius Osfay [sic], prior of St. Catherine's, Achdrumomane, O.S.A., in the diocese of Clonfert, that Donald Oruarch, perpetual vicar of the united parish churches of Kyllcomene [sic] and Killhilan in the said diocese, a public fornicator, has let the said churches fall to ruin, and has alienated their goods and converted them to evil uses. He, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Eugenius (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and was afterwards dispensed both on account of the said defect and of a homicide committed by him, to receive and retain the said priory, in virtue of which dispensation he holds the same, which is conventual and has cure, value 30 marks sterling, and who, on account of the slenderness of the prior's portion and the multitude of the canons, (fn. 3) cannot live decently, etc.), will accuse the said Donald before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to grant the said vicarages, value 5 marks sterling, to the said Eugenius in commendam for life. To the prior of St. Mary's, Lorrha (de Fonteuiui [sic]), in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.), and Thady Olacnayn and William Oduygyn, (fn. 4) canons of Killaloe. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Odo Okearwll, clerk, of Killaloe, that Maurice Okynedie, prior of St. John Baptist's by le Nachac, O.S.A., in the said diocese, a public fornicator, has dilapidated and converted to evil uses the immoveable and precious moveable goods of the said priory, and has allowed its roof, walls, etc., to go to ruin. He, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Odo will accuse the said Maurice, who is a priest, before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to receive the said Odo as a canon of the said monastery, give him the regular habit, and receive his profession, and moreover to collate and assign to him the said priory, value 50 marks sterling. To the archdeacon of Norwich and the official of Rochester. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of the abbot and convent of St. Mary, Shireborne, O.S.B., in the diocese of Salisbury, contained that although the tithes of corn-sheaves (fn. 5) of all lands belonging to the manors or demesnes called Coryngdon Hille Chedsey and Dolthas, within the bounds of the parish of Lynne [sic] and Halstow [sic] in the said diocese, belong by ancient custom to the said monastery, nevertheless John Louebande, a canon of Salisbury, falsely alleging that they belong to him, by reason of the prebend of Lynne and Halstow, brought them before Richard, bishop of Salisbury, who gave an unjust definitive sentence in favour of the said John and against them, and condemned them in costs, from which they have appealed to the apostolic see. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above two to proceed in the said appeal, and confirm or annul (fn. 6) the said sentence, without appeal. Humilibus etc. [1¼ pp.]

To the dean of Clonfert. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Donald Okecilly [sic], a canon of St. Mary's Clomosgyrtomane (recte Clontosgyrtomane), O.S.A., in the diocese of Clonfert, that Donatus Okeally, prior thereof, has dilapidated and converted to evil uses its immoveable and precious moveable goods, has publicly kept a concubine, (fn. 7) and, by committing homicide, has incurred irregularity. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above dean, if the said Donald (who has made his profession, and was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a deacon professed as a canon of the said order and of noble birth and an unmarried woman, (fn. 8) to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he was made a clerk) will accuse the said Donatus before him, to summon the latter, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said priory, conventual and value 50 marks sterling, to the said Donald, and induct him, after first receiving from him the usual oath of fealty, according to the form enclosed. The pope hereby specially dispenses him to receive and retain it, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Dignum etc. (At the end: F. xxx. Expedita Nono Kal. Febr. anno tertio. Sassenaten.) [2¾ pp.]

St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 216v.)
To the archdeacon and the chancellor of Killaloe (Laonien.), and Denis Edrayg [sic], a canon of the same. Mandate to receive Donatus Macrach, perpetual vicar of Kyllufyn (fn. 9) in the diocese of Killaloe, priest, as a canon of the monastery of SS. Peter and Paul the Apostles de Forgio alias de Clar, O.S.A., in the said diocese, give him the regular habit, and receive his profession. Cupientibus vitam ducere regularem. [1¾ pp. See below, p. 388.]
Ibid.
(f. 217r.)
To the archdeacon of Killaloe (Laonien.). Mandate, as below. The above monastery of SS. Peter and Paul the Apostles de Forgio alias de Clar has become void by the pope's promotion of Matthew, bishop of Clonfert, to that church, and by his consecration extra R.c. The pope, therefore, recapitulating the preceding, hereby orders the said archdeacon, after the above Donatus has taken the habit and made his profession, to make provision to him (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of an abbot of the said monastery and an unmarried woman, [both] of noble birth, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and receive and retain for life any mutually compatible benefices of any number and kind, with and without cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, in virtue of which he was so promoted; and who holds the above-mentioned vicarage of Kyllufyn, (fn. 9) value 3 marks sterling, and the rectory of Ogormyg, in the same diocese) of the said monastery, value 50 marks sterling, summoning and removing Matthew Macrach, a canon thereof, who has for more than three years intruded himself into the rule etc. thereof, without any title. The pope hereby dispenses the said Donatus to be abbot, and to rule the said monastery, and to retain the said vicarage with it in commendam for life, notwithstanding the said defect, etc., and grants that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop of his choice in communion with the apostolic see, without prejudice to the bishop of Killaloe. He is to resign the said rectory and all his other benefices except the said vicarage. Suscepti cura regiminis. [3 pp.]

8 Kal. Feb.
(25 Jan.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 218v.)
To the bishop of Ardfert, the archdeacon of London, and Simon Tawre, a canon of Hereford. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of William, abbot of Enysham, O.S.B., in the diocese of Lincoln, contained that although provision was canonically made to him of the said monastery, and although he has ruled it well for several years, and has never committed anything enormous on account of which he ought to have been disturbed, or excommunicated, or removed, etc., nevertheless Thomas, bishop of Lincoln, has hindered him from the peaceful exercise of the rule and administration, and has often publicly boasted that he will excommunicate him (fn. 10) and remove him from the said monastery, and sequestrate its fruits, wherefore he has appealed to the apostolic see. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three to summon the said bishop and others concerned, hear both sides, and decide what is just, without appeal, causing their decision to be observed by the said bishop by the pope's authority, and to be observed by others by ecclesiastical censure. Humilibus etc. [1 p. +]
1474.
Non. May.
(15 May.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 240v.)
To the archbishop of Tuam, and Donatus Olennayn and Thomas Macbressym, canons of the same. Mandate to collate and assign to Patrick Macgrayllyd, a canon of St. Mary's, Claontuascyrthyomane, O.S.A., in the diocese of Clonfert (who holds in commendam by papal dispensation the perpetual vicarage of Kyllaoyn in the said diocese) the perpetual vicarage of Kylhalaghtan in the said diocese, wont to be held by canons of the said monastery, and value 6 marks sterling, so long void by the death of Odo Odonollan extra R.c. that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Thomas Odonollan, who behaves as a canon of the said monastery, and who is to be summoned and removed, has for more than twenty-four years detained possession without any title or right, and from fear of whose power the said Patrick cannot safely meet him in the city and diocese of Clonfert. The pope hereby specially dispenses him to receive the said vicarage of Kylhalaghtan, and retain it for life with that of Kyllaoyn, value 3 marks sterling. Religionis etc. (At the end: A. xxii. Expedita Septimo Kal. Junii anno tertio. de Petra.) [2⅓ pp.]
