To the dean and the archdeacon of Raphoe, and Patrick Macarmaen, (fn. 2) canon of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Nicholas Onnachan (recte Omachan), clerk, of the diocese of Raphoe, that on the voidance of the [perpetual] vicarage of the parish church of Kyllmecnenayn in the said diocese by the resignation of Bernard Yffryl to Laurence, bishop of Raphoe, Nellanus Macchongalaydh, priest, of the said diocese, made a bargain with the said bishop, or with certain middlemen (mediatoribus), to the end that provision might be made to him of the said vicarage, promising them (illis) that if by their intercession the said bishop collated it to him he would pay to them, or would pay to the said bishop by their hands, a certain sum of money, as a result of which the said bishop made him collation and provision, whereupon, having paid the said sum, he obtained possession; and that, moreover, the said Nellanus has celebrated mass in a certain ecclesiastical place under interdict. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Nicholas will accuse Nellanus before them, to summon Nellanus and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to declare the said collation and provision, and their consequences, null and void, and remove Nellanus, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, with cure and value not exceeding 9 marks sterling, to the said Nicholas. To the dean of Raphoe. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Cornelius Onnechan (recte Omiechan), priest, of the diocese of Raphoe, that Cornelius Olonan, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Cunnmail in the said diocese, has committed simony and perjury, of which he has been judicially convicted, and has celebrated [mass etc.] in the presence of persons under interdict (coram interdictis celebrare non expavit). The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above dean, if the said Cornelius Onnechan will accuse the said Cornelius Olonan before the said dean, to summon Olonan and others concerned, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Olonan, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value not exceeding 10 marks sterling, to Onnechan, if found fit.Dignum etc. (N. and Ja. de Rizonibus.. | N. xv. To the dean and archdeacon of Raphoe, and John Olasci, canon of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Cornelius Macgungar, clerk, of the diocese of Raphoe, that Arthur Ogalleuyr, rector of the parish church of Kyllachaday in the said diocese, made a bargain with a certain adversary, to whom provision had been canonically made of the said rectory, that if the said adversary desisted from litigation and allowed him to have peaceable possession, he would pay him for life a certain part of the fruits etc. of the said rectory, the which payment he made, thereby committing simony; and that, moreover, he keeps a certain woman related to him in the third degree of affinity as his concubine. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Cornelius (who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to minor orders, after which he was made a clerk) will accuse the said Arthur before the above three, to summon Arthur and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Arthur, and in that event to collate and assign the said rectory, value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, to the said Cornelius, the pope dispensing him hereby to receive and retain it, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Vite etc. (N. and M. Amici. | N. xx.Quinto Kal. Maii Anno Septimo. Garilliati.) [3½ pp.]
