Dispensation to him, who is in about his sixteenth year, to hold any canonries and prebends, especially the prebend of Bleburi in Salisbury, even if they have cure, and, as soon as he attains his twentieth year, to hold any benefices with cure, even if dignities etc. or parish churches or their perpetual vicarages; and that he need not, on account of canonries and prebends requiring holy orders and such benefices with cure, dignities etc., be bound to have himself promoted to holy orders beyond that of subdeacon within a year of obtaining such canonries and prebends etc. Vite etc. (Jo. Motu proprio collation and provision to him, who is in his twentieth year and of a noble race of barons of the realm of Scotland, of the parish church of Kyrkkyner in the diocese of Whiteherne, with cure and requiring continual residence, value not exceeding 70l. sterling, void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the death there of David de Hamylton; notwithstanding that he is litigating in the Roman court about the precentorship (cantoria) of Moray, a non-major dignity with cure, provision of which was lately made to him by papal authority, value not exceeding 48l. sterling [cf. above, p. 45], of which he has not got possession. He is hereby dispensed, on account of the said defect of age, to hold the said parish church, upon obtaining which he is to give up the said precentorship, if he meanwhile obtain it, or his suit and right.Nobilitas etc.

14 Kal. June. (19 May.) Spoleto. (f. 54d.)	To William Hoge, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, bachelor of canon law. Reservation, as below. The pope has this day [below, f. 174] ordered provision to be made to Richard Clepham, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, of the precentorship of Moray, a non-major dignity with cure, when it shall become void by the rectory of Kyrkynnyr in the diocese of Whiteherne being obtained by Adam Hamylton [see the preceding letter], or the deanery of Aberdeen being obtained by Andrew de Duresder [see below, f. 224d], of the dioceses of Glasgow and St. Andrews respectively, or by the resignation of the said precentorship to the ordinary by [the late] Andrew Tulach, or by the death of the said Andrew [Tulach], (fn. 2) even if it should be already void in any way. Seeing that the said Richard consents to the perpetual reservation of a yearly pension of 20l. sterling upon the fruits etc. of the said precentorship, the pope hereby reserves and assigns it to the above William for life, to be paid by the said Richard and his successors, half on SS. Collation and provision to him, B.A., a kinsman of James de Hamilton, baron, and a student of canon law, of the archdeaconry of Orkney, a major dignity with cure, to which are annoxed certain canonries and prebends of the said church, value, with them, not exceeding 30l. sterling, void by the death of Andrew de Tuloch, and reserved under the pope's late general reservation of all major dignities in cathedral churches. Collation and provision to him, who is a kinsman of a number of barons of the realm of Scotland and is a B.A., of a canonry and prebend and the subdeanery of Glasgow, an office therein requiring personal residence, as some allege, value not exceeding 70l. sterling, void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the death there of David de Hammylton; notwithstanding that the pope lately made him provision [above, f. 139] of the archdeaconry of Orkney, a major dignity with cure, value not exceeding 30l. sterling, which, as he has offered, he is to give up, if he meanwhile obtain it, or all right therein or thereto, upon obtaining the said canonry and prebend and subdeanery. The pope lately, upon hearing that the precentorship of Moray, a non-major dignity [with cure], was void by the death of Andrew de Tulach, ordered provision thereof to be made to Adam de Hammylton and Andrew de Duresder, clerks, of the dioceses of St. Andrews and Glasgow. Afterwards the pope made provision to Adam of the rectory of Kyrkynnyr in the diocese of Whiteherne [above, f. 53] and to Andrew of the deanery of Aberdeen, likewise a dignity [below, f. 224d], both then void and previously reserved, whereby all their right in or to the said precentorship will, upon their obtaining possession of the said respective benefices, become void. The pope therefore reserves hereby, for collation to the above Richard, the said precentorship, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, or the said right. Litterarum etc.

Mandate, recapitulating the next following letter, to admit the resignation which Walter, abbot of the below-named monastery, who is too old and weak to govern it, proposes to make, and to make provision to the below-named Richard thereof, [value not stated,] reserving a yearly life pension to Walter; with faculty hereby to Richard to be blessed by any catholic bishop, who shall thereafter receive and send to the pope Richard's oath of fealty according to the form enclosed: without prejudice to the bishop of St. Andrews, to whom the said monastery is by ordinary right subject. 1449. 16 Kal. July. (16 June.) Spoleto. (f. 210d.)	To Thomas de Levinston, bishop in the universal church. Grant, as below. On the parish church of Kyrkynnir in the diocese of Whiteherne, [value not exceeding 70l. sterling, becoming void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved,] by the death [there] of David de Hamilton, the pope, motu proprio, ordered provision thereof to be made [to Adam de Hamylton; see above, f. 53]. (fn. 4) Seeing that the said church is void at the said see, and therefore reserved, by the death there of the said Adam without having had possession, the pope hereby, also motu proprio, grants it, value not exceeding 200 gold florins of the camera [cf. f. 53], to the above bishop in commendam until he obtains a cathedral church. Motu proprio collation and provision to him, who is of noble race, of the deanery of Aberdeen, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 50l. sterling, void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the death in the Roman court of David de Hamylton. He is hereby dispensed to hold for life it and his parish church of Kilpatrik in the diocese of Glasgow, value not exceeding 16l. sterling, and to resign both, [simply or for exchange,] as often as he pleases, and hold instead two other incompatible benefices, even if two dignities etc., but not two parish churches nor perpetual vicarages.
