Bagotesmorton, and Sir Edmund Huye, chaplain of Wyke nigh Perschor,
that they had published and testified that one Emma Calawe, late the wife
of John Hayward, the elder, of Wyke, aforesaid, as a daughter of iniquity,
on the eve of the Assumption of the B.V.M. 18 Richard II, about midnight,
seeing the said John her husband at death's door and deprived of memory
and speech, &c. sent the said Edmund after Thomas Sampson, chaplain,
similarly a son of falsehood, &c. and so the said Thomas with the consent
and assent of the said Emma and of John her son, wrote a false charter of
the lands and tenements of the said John Hayward, to wit that the said
John should give to the said Emma the said lands and tenements for ever,
together with a tenement in 'le Brugge Stret' of Perschor, &c. and the said
Emma, Thomas Sampson and John took a silver button from her hood
and put it in the hand of the said John, and so took his hand with the
button and laid it on the false deed; all which was falsely done, the said
John being insensible, and to the disherison of his heirs, as appears by

John Atherston, esquire, of Wyke and the said Sir Robert George, on

A. 11300. Indenture between Sir Richard de Stafford and Philip de
Eggerton witnessing that, whereas their lord, the Prince, Sir John de
Wenggfeld, the said Richard de Stafford and Master John de Brunham, the
younger, chamberlain of Chester, had granted and sold to the said Philip,
his executors and assigns, all the oaks (keynes) in the wood of Bykelegh,
except seventy which are not marked (queux ne sount my merchez), those
growing at a place called ' Haukeserd,' and those in the fields of Bykelegh,
outside the said wood, to cut, &c. during eight years; and whereas, by
reason of the said sale, the said Philip was bound to the said Sir
Richard by seven recognizances made in the exchequer of Chester, viz.
with Robert de Pulle, and others, in 269l. 4s., with Ken' Pecok and others,
John Dun and others and Roger del Malpas and others in 27 marks 2d.
respectively, with David son of William del Malpas and others and David
de Wyggelond and others in 9l. 1½d. respectively, and with Hugh del
Malpas, parson of the church of Bertumlegh, and others in 113l. 14s. 11d.;
grant by Sir Richard that if the said Philip were disturbed in the cutting
and carrying the said oaks either by the Prince and his ministers, or by
Sir John de Seynt Piere or his heirs, the said recognizances should be void.
