Figure 1 was drawn by J. A. Lawrence of the Department of Geography, Keele University, from a draft prepared by C. P. Lewis of the central Victoria County History staff and based on Ordnance Survey Map 1", index to the Tithe Survey. Figures 3-11, 14-16, 30, 32-5, 37-42, 44, and 46 were drawn by J. A.
