NONCONFORMITY.

A will in 1572 contained Roman Catholic invocations, (fn. 1) but no recusants were noted later. Tenants in the later 18th century and the 19th, notably members of the Williams, Pinnock, and probably Peck families, were prominent members of the Baptist meeting at Cote, (fn. 2) and Abraham Atkins (d. 1792), non-resident lessee of Chimney under Exeter cathedral, established trusts in support of several Baptist congregations including Cote. (fn. 3)
