HERALDIC ILLUSTRATIONS

1. DIOCESE OF ROCHESTER. Argent a saltire gules charged with a scallop or.
2. BARKING ABBEY. Azure in chief three lilies argent and in base three roses or all within a border gules charged with roundels argent.
3. DIOCESE OF CANTERBURY. Azure an archbishop's staff or with its cross argent surmounted by a pall argent edged and fringed with gold.
4. CHICHELE. Or a cheveron between three cinqfoils gules.
5. TIPTOFT, EARL OF WORCESTER. Argent a saltire engrailed gules.
6. TATE. Six pieces or and gules with three Cornish choughs.
7. EVYNGAR. His merchant's mark as shown on a shield upon his monument.
8. WYNTER. Cheeky or and sable a fesse argent.
9. KNOLLYS. Gules a cheveron argent with three roses gules thereon.
10. CROKE. Azure a fesse engrailed ermine between three eagles or.
11. TONGE. Party . . . and . . . a fleur de lis and a border engrailed, also parted and perhaps countercoloured. The colours are not known.
12. MONMOUTH. Azure a cinqfoil between two demilions passant or all between two fiaunches argent each charged with a griffon azure.
13. THYNNE. Barry of ten or and sable.
On Sword-rests.
14. SIR JOHN EYLES, Lord Mayor, 1727. Argent a fesse engrailed with three fleurs de lis in the chief all sable.
15. SLINGSBY BETHELL, Esqr., Lord Mayor, 1755. Argent a cheveron between three boars' heads sable with a star or upon the cheveron.
16. SIR THOMAS CHITTY, Lord Mayor, 1760. Gules a cheveron ermine with three talbots' heads razed or in the chief.
