Astir Yair Power seyen, and the Protestations, in suche Case accustumed, made for his Partye,
Sith yat PEAS is desired by the Partye Adverse, that it be said by the Kinges Ambassadours unto hem, that to all thing, that may turne to the COMMUNE GODE of all Cristen, to the REST of the twey Reaumys, and to eschuyng of sheding of CHRISTEN BLODE, the King hath be all Tymes and now is encloyned; and, notwithstanding that he is here in the Duchie of Normandye with his Royal Power, Werreying for recoveryng of his RIGHT, and also the goode and gracious SPEDE that God of his Myght hath sent unto him, he is ay redy to entende to the TRETYE of the said REST and ACCORDE, and to accept all reasonable WEYES and MEANS that shall be offred him yerin: To opening of whiche WEYES and MEANSE, the King's Ambaxatour shul dryve him by all Motives and Reasons that they can make and fynde; and yeruppon abide till that oyir Partye open.
And whanne they have opened, yf it so be that thay PROFRE the Duchie of Normandy, or any other thing, that the King hath now in his Handes, be it said to them, that the PROFRE is voide: For, sreer yan that that God hath yeve the King this Day in his Handes, may noo Man yeeve him: And forasmuche be it desired of them that theey wolde forber all such voide Offres, and only to profir him suche Things as he hath not in his Handes.
And, yf thay PROFIR any thing less than is contened in the GREAT PEAS, Be it said vnto them that, afore this Tyme, grettir PROFRES have be
made by Persones of notable Astate, havyng sufficieant Power, othir than the King's Ambaxatours felyn yet that thay have.
And, whan thay have PROFRED al that may be geten of hem, without speciale DEMANDS on the King's behalve, yf their PROFRES stretche to all that is contened in the GRET PEES or more, than mowe the King's Ambaxatours REHERSE unto them what hath he axed of thaire Partie lesse than the Corone of Fraunce herafor; that is to say,

The Countrey and Th'Erldome of Flaundrys, with all that, that the King shuld have had betweene the Watirs of Somme and of Gravelyng, of the whiche the King's Auncestres have be possessed;
AND be it AXED of them whether thay wol graunt it to the King; to the whiche be thay meoved by suche Resons, as the King's Ambaxatours yenken best.
AND, whan thay have dryve thaim to the utmost PROFIR that may be had of them in this wise, than be it AXED of them, how thay mow make the King sure of the PEES that thay PROFRE and DESIRE?
AND than be it SHEWED unto them, by the Resons that now be made therein, that, standing the Case as it is, it semyth that it is not in her Power to make the King sure of suche a PEES; the whiche Reson, as it semeth, shuld dryve them to fall to a TREWE.
AND, aftir it hath be clerely SHEWED them that thay ne mow make the King sure of the said PEES, beyng the Case as it is on her said, and that the King's Seurte to themward is both parfait and sufficeant; it may be said unto them, sith thay desire so much the REEST and FRENDSHIP to be had between the King and her Lord, that thay came fro, and that the King is for his Partye wele disposed thereto, lat them se what othir WEY resonable thay can fynde thereto.
And, yf so be that thay desire to have a PEES appointed, the whiche shuld be affirmed, engrossed, and put in Execution as soone as thay myghth come to sufficeant Power, and in the meane tyme a TREW with suche Landes as may be accorded betwen the King's Ambaxatours and them, the King wol that, if the PROFRIS, that thay make to have this PEES appointed by Gret and Notable and suche as the King wol agree to, that it be sayd unto them that thay be not in doute but that the King is fully disposed to have and appoint a PEES with their Partye, so that they make him PROFREES acceptables, and that therewith he sawe a sure Grounde to sett this PEES upon; nevertheles, yf this PEES shuld be appointed, like as thay desire, the Matiere is soo greet and soo high of it self, the grettist that may be yrthly, that it fittith not, ne yer dar noo Persones, olesse than thay be inly nygh of the Kingis Blode, take upon them to appoint theryn; wherfor be it said, be the King's Ambassatours, unto them that they wol sende unto her Soverayn Lorde of thair PROFRES, and desire and wete ther upon his WILL.
And, yf the Amyaxatours, for that othir Partye, open the WEY of a long TREWE, wele is: Els be it opened be the Kingis Partye (thay taking Occasion and Colour of openyng of this WEY, forasmuch as it was onys opened and entred at Wynchestre) in Processe of the whiche Wey, if Th'Ambaxatours of that othir Partye wold melde the Matier of Allyance with the Matier of the said TRUE, be it said unto them, puttyng them out of douet that they have full an sufficient Power of the King to Trete and Commune with them upon her Matier of ALLIANCE and to graunt them suche that by Resoune they shul be plesed and content;
Nevertheles thes be Twey Matiers diverse,
That oon a Matier of cessing of Wer and Inconvenience that alday suen therof, and setting of oon ACCORDE and REST betwene the twey Reames,
And that othir a Matier of a singler LIGE and FRENDSHIP, out of the Commun Cours of TREWES, concernyng her singuler Profitt and Avauntage,
Wherfor, be it said that, of Resoune, thaim ought to be departed in TRETYE, and the Matier of TREWE to be TREATFD afore:
AND therefore be it desired of them that the Matier of the TREWE be first Communed and APPOINTED, and aftir it thair Matier of ALLIANCE; and than to be CONCLUDED togedirs uppoune both; and heruppon that the Kingis Ambaxatours abide.
AND than, in Communication of the said Trewes, be it axed of them what Landes thay wol yeve to the King with this TREWES: and, yf thay make difficulte to graunt Landes with this TREWES, be it said unto them that them ought, of Reason, for to do it for many Causes,
FIRST, considered the RIGHT that the KING hath to the CORONE and all the REAUME of FRAUNCE; of Exaction and Recoveryng for the whiche, he moost surcesse during the Tyme of this TREWE; and to suffir the Partie adverse to occupie as he doth: the which, it is noo doubte, the King wol not doo it in noo wise, olesse that thay doo soo to him therefor as he wol hold him content; an OYER, for ther Ese and the Seurete that thay shul have therby.
AND also, considering that that the KING allieth not with ther contrary Partye, that in such Case, as it semyth have more Power than thay; so doo, be they out of doute that the King, being now redy herewith his Host, wol dryve them ther to Joporde with them all on a day; trusting to Goddis Grace and his Mercy that, like as he hath begonne with him, he wol contynue in pursuyng of his Right.
And, over thes, that the Kingis Ambaxatours make suche Motyves and Resons in thes Matiers, as God wol send to there Descretions for the Tyme.
And, yf it happen that the Partieadverse OFFRE to the KING all that is contened in the Gret PEES, with that Partie of Normandy that thay have in ther Hands, and the Countie of Perch, and thair Labour and Socour to help to gete to the King that Partie of Normandy that is occupied be the Burgoynes, with all the ROYALTEEZ and SOVERAYNTEEZ, and all other APPORTENANCES, longing thereto of olde Tyme, or els all that is abovesaid (save the Countye of Pontif) the King wol that his Ambaxatours aske of them whan these Landes shul be delivered unto the King? and in what wise?
And, aftir that thea have OPENED suche WEYES of Deliveraunce, lat the Kingis Ambaxatours IMPUGNE them in suche Wise as thaim think Resonable, and soo dryve them to fynding of the WEYES such as may be both sure and hasty; lating them WETE that, till that be doo, thay cannot fele that the King wol graunt them that they DESIRE.
The which WEYES Herd and Comuned, the KING wol be certified be his Ambaxatours; in the whiche Certification be it also Wist of the King, so be that his Ambaxatours shul appoint in the Tyme whom he wol have CONSERVATOURS for his partye.
And, astir that Appointment made in the Matier of TREWE, yf the said Ambexatours dscende to the TRETY of the Matier of ALLIANCE and Socours, be it asked of that other Partie, what Socours thay wold desire, personell, Socours of the King? Be it aunswered unto them, that their Desire is discrete, and of the most notable Socours that may be had, and moost likly with long delaye to set them in Reste; Nevertheles, to bynde the KINGIS Persone in especial, thay dar nought, ne ought not take uppon them:
But, yit suche things myght they Offre to the King, over that that thay have Offred him afore, that thay wol take upon them to TRETE with them, and graunt them a Socours of a Royal Power, havying therof the Captaine noo lesse Persone than oon of notable Estate of the Kingis Blod.
And thereuppon, be it enquired of them ayens, whom thay desire thees Socours? and of the Manner and of the Tyme? and of all other Circumstances thereof; and whan it shuld bigynne and ende? and what they wold doo to the King, over that thay have profred afore, if it so be that the King wol grant them that Socours? Considering how gret a thyng it is, and how greet Coost it wold draw to, and the grete Profite and Seurtye shuld fall to them thereby.
And, yf thay desire a lesse SOCOURS than is said above, be it said unto them, that, forasmuche as the Maner of Werreying of Fraunce hath be wont to have long Tarryng and Delayes (the whiche the Kingis entent is to eschew, as them ought also, by Resoune, as nowe for Mony Skilles) therefore it is the Kingis Will, yf he shall any Socours Graunt them, to Graunt them suche as shuld sonest sett both them, and thaim, and the both Reaums in Quiete and Reste.
And, yf soo be that thay desire thes SOCOURS in especiall ayens the Duc of Borgoigne, and with that make difficult in grauntyng eny more than thay dave doo before, be they moved to consider the gret Profitt that they be like to have by these Socours, and by
the Destruction of ther Enemys; whiche Profitt is more than thay have profred to the King above: Wherthrow it shall wel mow be that the king have othir Landes than thay have proffred afor, without eny grett Charge to them; the whiche as it semyth them ought not by reason to refuse, yf them luste to have the Kingis Frendship and Socours.
And, yf soo be that that othir Partie, after thees Motyves above, or odir, made unto them, ne condescende to Profir more than thay have doo before, or els Profir Thing of noo Reputatioune, eythir desire (to wit) what the Kyng wold have over that they have profred afore; be it axed of them to have the Countees of Boiloigne, and Boloignes, Artoys, and of Flaundres; the whiche yf thay wol not Graunt, lat the Kingis Ambaxatours fall, be Processe, to aske Seint Omers with the Counte and the Lande of Flandres: And finaly, yf thay Graunt not that, be it axed of him the King to have all the Countee and the Contre of Flaundres, and thay bounded to help to wynne it: and, yf thay gete ther in any strength or Party therof, thay leve it without Delay to the King; and in the same wise the King to doo to them of any Strengith or Part, that he shal gete in any othir Lordshipps, of the Dues of Burgoigne, out of the Lordshipps that thay have Offred him afore.
ALSO, the King woll that th'Ambaxatours of Enles Arminac and the Lordes de Labnett be not admitted, in noo Wife, to be present in the TRETY betwene the Kingis Ambaxatours and the Dauphinis; but yf the Dauphines Ambaxatours desire it, Nevertheless the King wol that thay be goodly Treted, and Induced to forthir the Kingis Partye in this TRETYE.
ALSO, the King wol that his Ambaxatour Certefie him every Weke, onys atte lest, of ther Trety and Spede, with all othir Circumstances and Tyding that fallen therin or other wise.
