Old Brentford is a parish forming part of the borough of Chiswick and Brentford and adjoining Chiswick on the W.
Secular
Monuments (1–12)
The following monuments, unless otherwise described, are of late 17th or early 18th-century date and of two storeys. The walls are of brick and the roofs are tile or slate-covered. Some of the buildings have exposed ceiling-beams.
Condition—Good or fairly good, unless noted.
a(1) Ferry House, near the river and N. of Brentford Dock, is of three storeys with cellars. The windows are square-headed and there are brick bands between the storeys and a wooden eaves-cornice. The interior has been entirely modernised.
a(2) House, with shop, No. 61 on the S. side of High Street, 120 yards W.N.W. of (1), has a band between the storeys and a modillioned eaves-cornice.
a(3) House, Nos. 62 and 63, immediately W. of (2), has been refronted.
a(4) House with shop, No. 65, 5 yards W. of (3), retains its modillioned eaves-cornice.
a(5) House with shop, No. 46 High Street, 150 yards N.N.E. of (1).
Condition—Poor.
a(6) House, No. 43, 20 yards E.N.E. of (5), has been refronted in the 18th century.
b(7) House, two tenements and shops, Nos. 400–401 on the N. side of High Street 400 yards W. of Kew Bridge, has been much altered.
Condition—Poor.
b(8) House, two tenements and shops, Nos. 332–3, 500 yards W.S.W. of (7), has an eaves-cornice.
Condition—Poor.
b(9) House, with shop, No. 331 immediately W. of (8), is of three storeys and has an 18th-century front.
Condition—Poor.
b(10) Range of three tenements, Nos. 7–9 on the S. side of Walnut Tree Road 60 yards N.N.W. of (9).
Condition—Poor.
a(11) Grove House, now N., Middle and S. Grove, on the E. side of Ealing Road, 1,000 yards N. of (1), has been extensively altered but retains parts of its eaves-cornice. Inside the building is an original staircase with turned balusters, and close strings.
a(12) House, No. 71 on the E. side of Boston Road nearly 1¼ m. W. of Kew Bridge, has a brick band between the storeys and the windows have flush frames. The S. part of the house is slightly earlier in date than the N. part.
