TETBURY UPTON

(9½ miles S.W. of Cirencester)

(1) Romano-British Villa? (ST 87829572), 600 yds. N.W. of Upton House, stands on level ground on the plain, about 530 ft. above O.D. There is no surface source of water in the vicinity. Walls, extensively disturbed by quarrying, occupy an area of at least 1 acre.

An exploratory excavation revealed at least three rooms and a probable hypocaust. Finds include numerous 3rd–4th-century coins. Three superimposed burials are reported, the middle one in a stone coffin, the other two in wooden coffins.
