Superintendent of Foreign Ministers' Accounts 1827-39

In 1827 Byng, the only Senior Clerk not receiving an allowance for the performance of a specific area of duty, was awarded an annual allowance of £150 to examine the contingent accounts of diplomats and consuls. (fn. 1) Thereafter he was usually designated Superintendent of Foreign Ministers' Accounts. On Byng's retirement in 1839, the duty was transferred to the Chief Clerk. (fn. 2)
