Draftsmen to Civil Architect and Engineer and to Surveyor of Buildings 1809-32

In 1805 the office of Draftsman to the Inspector General of Naval Works was discontinued and three Assistant Draftsmen, paid weekly allowances, were appointed in his place. (fn. 1) When proposing the incorporation of the Naval Works Department with the Navy Board, the Commissioners of Naval Revision recommended that a Draftsman should be paid a salary of £250 and that the Navy Board should be left to decide the number of Assistant Draftsmen necessary. (fn. 1) In 1809, following discussions between the Admiralty and the Navy Board, the three Assistant Draftsmen appointed in 1805 were appointed Draftsmen to the Civil Architect and Engineer at salaries of £250, £200 and £180. (fn. 1) Following the abolition of the office of Civil Architect and Engineer in 1812, the Draftsmen served under the Surveyor of Buildings. In 1816 the salary of the first Draftsman was increased to £400, of the second to £350, and of the third to £300. (fn. 1) In 1828 the salaries of the second and third Draftsmen were reduced to £200 and £150 respectively. In 1831 the office of third Draftsman was discontinued, and the salary of the second Draftsman reduced to £150. (fn. 1) Various Temporary Draftsmen employed at weekly allowances by the Civil Architect and Engineer and the Surveyor of Buildings have not been included in these lists.
