Porter 1676-1870

A Porter with a salary of £20 was attached to the Admiralty between 1676 and 1678 and between 1686 and 1689. (fn. 1) Provision was made for a Porter with a salary of £30 in the establishment of 1694. (fn. 2) The salary was raised to £50 in 1800. (fn. 3) In 1832 the remuneration was fixed at 10s 3d a day. A salary of £160 was substituted in 1840. (fn. 4)
