Pleading: William Charnels, for himself and the king, claims that he retained John Herflete as a saddler on 1 November 1398, to serve until the following Easter, but JH left his service on 12 November 1398 without reasonable cause, in breach of the statute of Labourers and to his damage of £20.

Pleading: JH says that at some point before 12 November 1398, WC, on account of various debts owed by him, fled to the liberty of St Martin le Grand, from which date he no longer received the food and clothing due to him for his service. He therefore approached the guild for remedy, according to the custom of London, and the keepers of the guild placed him in the service of Edward Wynter, leaving the service of WC. He intended no injury.

Pleading: WC denies this, saying that he did find JH sufficient food and clothing between 1 November and 12 November 1398.

Pleading: John Hanley claims that Henry Boone made bond with him and John Govaire, deceased, for £160, [payable on the vigil of the Assumption then next, but did not pay, to damage of £100. He shows the bond in court.

Pleading: HB requests that the bond be read, which is done, stating that payments were due at various times, namely £10 at the vigil of the Assumption, £10 at Michaelmas, £20 at Christmas, £20 on the eve of Easter, and £20 on the vigil of Nativity of St John the Baptist, after which the bond would be cancelled, and he shows a release from Govaire, dated 22 August 1390, stating that the money had been paid by HB, John Sampson and Reginald Hill, and cancelling the bond.

Pleading: JH states that at the time this release was supposedly made Govaire was already dead, and that the release was thus not made by Govaire. He seeks enquiry by the country, and by William Cole, Stephen Derneford, Maurice Berd, William Bogherewe and William Grene, named as witnesses to the said release.

Pleading: JC says that he has always been prepared to return the bond, and presents it in court to be restored to whoever the court wishes, but says that he does not know under what conditions it should be returned. Pleading: John Seymour states that, on 25 July 1381, William Framelyngham retained him to prosecute an extent of the statute staple of £1000 in Somerset against William de Botereus, for a salary of £20. The extent was returned on 22 September 1381, and he paid him £10 of this £20. Also, on 18 June 1397, he again retained him to be his attorney in the Common Bench to prosecute writs against Richard Talbot, lord of Archenfield and Blakemere, in pleas of debt of £553 5s 9d, Nicholas Parfet of Gloucester in a debt of £200, and Thomas Swynborne in a debt of 200m, taking for his salary the costs awarded, amounting to £4. However, WF has not paid this £4, or the earlier £10, to his damage of £40.

JM has refused to pay PM or his executors, to damage of £200. Plaintiffs show the will in court, by which they are executors and administrators.

Pleading: Robert Excestre, prior of Holy Trinity Aldgate, London, states that Nicholas Algate, former prior of Holy Trinity Aldgate, his predecessor, was seised of an annual rent of 26s 8d by the hand of John Cambrigg, former parson of Black Notley, predecessor of the defendant, payable at Black Notley at Michaelmas, Christmas, Easter and the Nativity of St John the Baptist, held by his predecessors from an unknown date. However, 11¾ years before the date of the original writ (12 October 1399), the present parson, John, withdrew the rent, and now refuses to pay the arrears, now amounting to £15 13s 4d, to the prior's damage of £40.

Pleading: John, parson of Black Notley, states that he is parson of Black Notley, but that he found the church exonerated of the said rent, and he is not able to burden the church without the prior of Holy Trinity London, patron of that church, and Robert, bishop of London, ordinary of that church. He seeks the assistance of the patron and ordinary, and he should have this. The patron and ordinary are summoned to be here at the quindene of Martinmas next to answer RE, prior of Holy Trinity London, together with parson John.

John states that RE, prior of Holy Trinity ought not maintain his action, since he states that a certain former prior of Holy Trinity, predecessor of RE, in the time of Henry III, was seised by right of his church of the advowson of Black Notley, and held it to the proper use of his church, and not that the said Nicholas Algate and the predecessors of the present prior were seised of the annual rent aforesaid from JC and his predecessors, as the prior has claimed. The prior repeats that NA and his predecessors were seised of this annual rent as claimed. Enquiry by country, jury here at octave of Trinity.

Pleading: Amice, formerly the wife of Robert Bardolf, states that on 4 November 1396 Thomas Goodlak made a bond with her in £20, but has not paid, to her damage of 40m. She shows bond in court, stating that Goodlak and a certain Richard Littelyngton, citizen and vintner of London, were bound in this £20. The bond does not say where it was made, but she states that it was made at Mapledurham.

Pleading: TG requests that the bond and endorsement be read in court. The endorsement states that the if the debtors should pay to Amice or her executors, etc, in her house in Cousin Lane in London, four instalments of 50s at the feast of the Purification, Pentecost, St Peter ad Vincula and All Saints 1397, then the bond shall be cancelled. Thomas states that Littelyngton complied with the terms of the endorsement, in the parish of St Martin, Vintry ward.

Pleading: John Bredon states that Robert Halom accounted in London on 4 October 1397 before John Hopeswych and Peter Tharthe, auditors, for various sums and receipts collected by him for JB, and was found to be in arrears by £11 9s 10d. He has not paid, to his damage of £10.

Pleading: RH states that the case should not continue as later, on 3 February 1399, at Southwell in Nottinghamshire, they both placed themselves under the arbitration of John Kyngeston and John Daly, regarding this debt and other trespasses, and the arbitrators decided that RH should pay JB 10s, in return for which he would be quit of this debt and all other allegations. This 10s was paid.

He has received £4 19s 5d of this, but the rest is not paid, to his damage of £20.

He did not secure this payment, but he also did not pay for the bed, to his damage of £20.
