Accordingly, the Lord Cathcart presented to the House a Bill, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing Joseph Ventura."

Bowes Road Bill:

Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for enlarging and altering the Terms and Powers of Two several Acts of Parliament made and passed in the Twenty-first and Twenty-ninth Years of the Reign of His late Majesty King George the Second, for repairing the High Road from the Town of Bowes, in the County of York, to Barnard Castle, in the County of Durham, and from thence through Staindrop to Newgate, in Bishop Auckland, and from Newgate along Gibb Chair to Gaundless Bridge, and from thence by Melderston Gill, otherwise Cowndon Gill, to the Turnpike Road near Sunderland Bridge, in the County of Durham, and for reducing the said Acts into one; and for the more effectually repairing and keeping in Repair the said Road."

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass?"

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

Message to H. C. that the Lords have agreed to it.

Isle of Wight Bill

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to revive and continue so much of an Act made in the Sixth Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, as relates to the Conveyance of Sheep between Cowes, in the Isle of Wight, and the Ports of Southampton and Portsmouth; and to extend the same to Horses and Lambs; and to amend the said Act."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Weldon Enclosure Bill, Petition against.

Upon reading the Petition of the Reverend William Raye Clerk, Rector of the Parish of Weldon, in the County of Northampton; taking Notice of a Bill depending in this House, intituled, "An Act for dividing and enclosing the Common and Open Fields, Meadows, Commonable Lands, and Waste Grounds, in Great Weldon and Little Weldon, in the County of Northampton;" and praying Their Lordships, "That he may be heard by himself or Counsel against such Parts of the said Bill as may affect him; that the Tythes may remain payable to him in Kind as heretofore, and that the said Bill may not pass into a Law as it now stands; or that the Petitioner may have such other Relief in the Premises, as to the House shall seem meet."

It is Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Committee to whom the said Bill stands committed; and that the Petitioner be at Liberty to be heard by himself or his Counsel against such Parts of the said Bill as may affect him before the said Committee; and that Counsel be heard for the Bill at the same Time if they think sit.

Broadstairs Harbour Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by the Lord North and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for repairing or rebuilding the Pier adjoining to the Harbour of Broadstairs, in the Isle of Thanet, in the County of Kent, and for the better preserving the said Harbour; and for removing and preventing Obstructions, Nuisances, and Annoyances, and regulating the Mooring of Ships and Vessels within the said Harbour;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Aynho Enclosure Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Hobart and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for dividing and enclosing the Open and Common Fields, Common Meadows, Common Pastures, and other Commonable Places in the Parish of Aynho, in the County of Northampton;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Two Bills were, severally, read the First Time.

Wyrley Canal Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Hobart and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for making and maintaining a Navigable Canal from or from near Wyrley Bank, in the County of Stafford, to communicate with the Birmingham, and Birmingham and Fazeley Canal, at or near the Town of Wolverhampton, in the said County, and also certain Collateral Cuts therein described, from the said intended Canal;" and to acquaint this House, That they have agreed to Their Lordships' Amendment made thereto.

Nottingham Canal Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Robert Smith and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for making and maintaing a Navigable Canal from the Cromford Canal, in the County of Nottingham, to or near to the Town of Nottingham, and to the River Trent near Nottingham Trent Bridge; and also certain Collateral Cuts therein described, from the said intended Canal;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Bill was read the First Time.

St. Bride's Church Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Alderman Curtis and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for repairing, altering, and improving the Parish Church of Saint Bridget, otherwise Saint Bride, in the City of London; and for providing a Workhouse for the same Parish;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Patrick against His Majesty's Advocate, in Error.

The House being informed, "That Mr. Bonner attended with a Writ of Error from the Court of Exchequer in Scotland,"

He was called in, and being sworn and examined, acquainted Their Lordships, "That he received the said Writ of Error from Mr. Baron Cockburn, sealed up from the Lord Chief Baron of the said Court of Exchequer, and that it is now in the same Condition it was when he received it;" and then delivered the same at the Bar:

He was directed to withdraw.

Turkdean Enclosure Bill.

Sunderland Keelmen Bill.

Ordered, That the Committee, to whom the Bill, intituled "An Act for establishing a permanent Fund for the Relief and Support of Skippers and Keelmen employed in the Coal Trade on the River Wear, in the County of Durham, who by Sickness, or other accidental Misfortunes, or by Old Age, shall not be able to maintain themselves and their Families; and also for the Relief of the Widows and Children of such Skippers and Keelmen," stands committed, be revived, and meet on Thursday next.

Home against E. Camden et al., in Error.

The House being moved, "That a Day may be appointed for hearing Counsel to argue the Errors assigned upon the Writ of Error wherein Roddham Home Esquire, is Plantiff, and Charles Earl Camden, and others, are Defendants."

It is Ordered, That this House will hear the said Errors argued by Counsel at the Bar, on the First vacant Day for Causes after those already appointed.

After hearing Counsel, as well on Friday the 30th of March last, as on Monday the 2d, Wednesday the 4th, and Wednesday the 18th Days of this Instant April, upon the Petition and Appeal of John Jameson, Sheriff Clerk of Alloa, and Stephen Maxwell, Proprietors of the Distillery of Lochrin, and John Hay, Distiller at Lochrin, complaining of Three Interlocutors of the Lords of Session in Scotland, of the 9th of June, the 22d of November, and 7th of December 1791; and also of an Interlocutor of the Lord Justice Clerk, officiating as Ordinary on the Bills of the 20th of February 1792; and praying, "That the same might be reversed, varied, or altered, or that the Appellants might have such other Relief in the Premises as to this House in Their Lordships' great Wisdom should seem meet; as also upon the Answer of John Russell, Writer to the Signet, and John Sawes, of Bells Mills, put in to the said Appeal, and due Consideration had of what was offered on either Side in this Cause:"

Cause remitted.

It is Ordered and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Cause be remitted back to the Court of Session in Scotland, in order that the said Court may enquire how far the Rill called Lochrin Burn, or Crossburn, is liable to the Service of a common Sewer, and to receive the Offscouring of Houses and other Trades, and in what Parts built and established, or hereafter to be built or established, and to what Extent: Also, how far the actual Use made of the Distillery in Question can be impeached in Law as a Nuisance in a Rill so circumstanced, and by what Means in particular within the Description of the Libel such Annoyance is occasioned; and how far the same affect the Parks of Mr. Russell, the Pursuer in the said Libel also mentioned.

Isle of Wight Bill.

Upon reading the Petition of the Company of Proprietors of the Erewash Canal, in the Counties of Derby and Nottingham, taking Notice of a Bill depending in this House, intituled, "An Act for making and maintaintaining a Navigable Canal from the Cromford Canal, in the County of Nottingham, to or near to the Town of Nottingham, and to the River Trent, near Nottingham Trent Bridge; and also certain Collateral Cuts therein described, from the said intended Canal;" and praying Their Lordships, "That they may be heard by themselves or Counsel, against the said Bill, and that the same may not pass into a Law, or that the Petitioners may have such other Relief in the Premises, as to the House shall seem meet:"

It is Ordered, That the said Petition do lie on the Table till the said Bill be read a Second Time; and that the Petitioners be at Liberty to be then heard by their Counsel against the said Bill; as also Counsel be heard for the Bill, at the same Time if they think fit.

Patrick against His Majesty's Advocate, in Error.

Upon reading the Petition of David Patrick, Plaintiff in a Writ of Error depending in this House, and of His Majesty's Advocate General for Scotland, Defendant thereto; setting forth, "That the Decision of the Question in this Cause, will be a Rule for the Conduct of the Commissioners of Excise in Scotland in future, with respect to Licences for retailing Spirituous Liquors, and that it is of material Consequence to the Revenue of the Country, that the same should be speedily determined: That the Cause now stands for hearing immediately after those already appointed, but from the Number before it, the Petitioners are apprehensive the Hearing will be delayed for a considerable Time, unless Their Lordships will appoint a Bye-Day for the hearing thereof;" and therefore praying Their Lordships, "That the said Cause may be appointed to be heard on Saturday next, the 21st Day of this instant April:"

It is Ordered, That this House will hear the said Cause by Counsel at the Bar on Saturday next as desired; and that the Counsel be called in at One o'Clock.

Kirkby Kendal Canal Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Stanley and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for making and maintaining a Navigable Canal from Kirkby Kendal, in the County of Westmorland, to West Houghton, in the County Palatine of Lancaster; and also a Navigable Branch from the said intended Canal, at or near Borwick, to or near Warton Cragg; and also another Navigable Branch from at or near Gale Moss, by Chorley, to or near Duxbury, in the said County Palatine of Lancaster;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Bill was read the First Time.

Leo's Bill.

Upon reading the Petition of Messieurs Martin, Stone, and Foote and others, Creditors of the York Buildings Company, Respondents in a Cause depending in this House, to which the Governor and Company of Undertakers for raising Thames Water in York Buildings, are Appellants; setting forth, "That the Appellants having made Proposals for settling the Matters in Question in this Cause, the same have been considered by the Counsel for the Respondents, and approved of, but their Solicitor has not yet had an Opportunity of receiving the Directions of his Clients thereon, he is desirous that these Causes may stand adjourned to the 25th Day of this instant April;" and therefore praying, "That the Hearing of these Causes may be adjourned to that or any other Day as Their Lordships shall please to appoint; the Agent for the said Appellants having signed the said Petition, as consenting thereto:"

The Lord Cathcart reported from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for vesting a Leasehold Estate, late of John Blackburne Esquire, deceased, in Trustees to be sold, and for applying the Money arising therefrom, in the Manner therein mentioned," was committed: "That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true; that the Parties concerned, had given their Consents to the Satisfaction of the Committee; and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Ordered, That the said Bill be engrossed.

Ordered, That all the Lords who have been or shall be present this Session, and are not named of the Committee, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for making and maintaining a Navigable Canal from Kirkby Kendal, in the County of Westmorland, to West Houghton, in the County Palatine of Lancaster; and also a Navigable Branch from the said intended Canal at or near Borwick, to or near Warton Cragg, and also another Navigable Branch from at or near Gale Moss, by Chorley, to or near Duxbury, in the said County Palatine of Lancaster;" stands committed, be added to the said Committee.
