Parliament prorogued.
The King's most Excellent Majesty having, by His Writ of Summons, bearing Date at Westminster the Eighteenth Day of April last, appointed His Parliament to open and begin this Day:
The Lord Chancellor acquainted the House, "That His Majesty had sent a Writ under the Great Seal, for proroguing the Parliament."
Which was read, by the Clerk, as follows:
"GEORGE R.
"George the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth: To Our Dearly Beloved and Faithful the Prelates, Nobles, and Lords, of Our Kingdom of Great Britain; and to Our Beloved and Faithful the Knights, Citizens, Burgesses, and Commissioners for the Counties and Boroughs of Our said Kingdom; called and chosen to Our Parliament, to be begun and held at Our City of Westminster the Thirteenth Day of this Instant Month of June, and to every One of you, Greeting. Whereas We, for certain difficult and pressing Affairs, concerning Us, the State and Defence of Our Kingdom of Great Britain and the Church, did ordain the said Parliament to be held at the Day and Place aforesaid; and did command you, by Our several Writs, to be present, at the City and Day aforesaid, to treat, consent, and conclude, about those Things which, in Our said Parliament, then and there should be proposed and treated of: Nevertheless, for certain Causes and Considerations Us at this Time specially moving, We have thought fit to prorogue Our aforesaid Parliament unto Tuesday the Sixteenth Day of July next ensuing; so that neither you, or any of you, are held or obliged to appear on the said Thirteenth Day of June, at the aforesaid City: And We also will, that you, and every One of you, shall be wholly discharged to Us therefrom; commanding, and, by the Tenor of these Presents, strictly requiring you, and every of you, and all others whom this may concern, that you, and every of you, Personally appear and be present on the said Sixteenth Day of July, at Our said City of Westminster, to treat, do, act, and conclude, upon those Things which, in Our said Parliament, by the common Council of Our said Kingdom (by God's Assistance), shall happen to be ordained.
"Witness Ourself, at Westminster, the Twelfth Day of June, in the Eighth Year of Our Reign.
"A Writ to prorogue the Parliament from the First Summons.
"Signed by the King Himself.
"Bisse & Bray."
Return of the Peers for Scotland delivered.
The Clerk of the Crown in Chancery delivered this Day a Certificate of the Names of the Sixteen Peers, chosen, summoned, and certified, to sit and vote in this House, for that Part of Great Britain called Scotland; who, at the Table, attending with the Original Return, the same was compared with the said Certificate, and found to agree therewith, and is as follows; (videlicet,)
"May it please your Lordships,
"These are the Names of the Sixteen Peers, who, according to the late Act in that Case made and provided, are chosen, summoned, and certified, to be Members of the House of Lords, for and on the Behalf of that Part of Great Britain called Scotland, in the Parliament of Great Britain which is to meet the Thirteenth of June Instant:
"The Duke of Buccleugh.
"The Duke of Athol.
"The Marquis of Lothian.
"The Earl of Crawfurd.
"The Earl of Southerland.
"The Earl of Mortoun.
"The Earl of Lowdoun.
"The Earl of Finlater.
