Somerset. Inq. and extent, Tuesday after St. Martin, 3 Edw. I.
Est Cocre. The manor (extent given), including 16s. 8d. rent in the borough of Murifeud, held of the heirs of the earl of the Isle by service of 1 knight.
Knights' fees:—
Hardinton. The manor held by William de Bingeham of the said John, and by him of the king in chief, by service of 1 knight.
Kington. The manor held by William de Mand[evill] of the said John by service of 1 knight, and by him of the heirs of the count of Mortain (com' de Morcell').
Estcocre. The advowson of the church.
John his son, aged 16 and more, is his heir.

The manor (extent given with names of tenants) with the foreign hundred of Whitchurche, held, with the manor of Cydiok which Geoffrey de Maundevile his father alienated to John Gervays and his heirs rendering 20l. yearly, of the king in chief by barony and by service of 2 knights in the king's army.
Mortesthorne. 2 knights' fees held by William de Mortestorne, pertaining to the manor of Merswude.
Westone. 1 fee held by the same.
Pyneforde. Two parts of 1 fee held by Henry son of Richard.

Oxford. Extent, Sunday before St. Katherine, 4 Edw. I.
Netelbedde. The manor (extent given) held of the earl of Cornwall rendering 8s. yearly and suit at his court at Bensinton.

Wilts. Extent, Wednesday the feast of St. Edmund the king and martyr, 4 Edw. I.
Sutton. The manor (extent given), including 16s. 3½d. rent from the freemen of Swalfklyfe and Hugeford, and 60s. rent from the fee of Denemede which are due to Robert de Denemede yearly, with the advowson of the church, held of the earl of Gloucester for 1 knight's fee, and it owes suit at his court at Kraneborn.

Petition (by Joan below mentioned?) complaining that the sheriff of Wilts has taken the manor of Sutton into the king's hand (French, undated).
Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of Joan daughter of the said John that the escheators had taken into the king's hand the manor of Sutton which was given to the said John in free marriage with Agnes her mother, 10 Nov. 3 Edw. I.
Wilts. Inq. Wednesday in Whitsun week, 4 Edw. I.
Sutton. The manor was given by Geoffrey de Maundevil to Drew de Barantyn to acquit himself of Jewry, and afterwards the said Drew gave the manor to John de Maundevile, son of the said Geoffrey, in free marriage with Agnes his daughter, to be held to him and the heirs of the body of the said Agnes.
Joan their daughter is next heir of the said Agnes.
Writ of plene extendi facias to the sheriff of Somerset and Dorset, escheator there, in order to assign to Clemence late the wife of the said John her dower, 18 Dec. 4 Edw. 1.
Somerset. Extent, Saturday the feast of the Innocents, 4 Edw. I.
Coker (extent given), with the foreign hundred and the advowson of the church.
Hardington. 1 knight's fee held by William de Bengham and Cecily his wife for life, doing nothing but 4d. yearly and foreign service.
Kyngton. 1 knight's fee held by William de Maundevill, brother of the said John, doing nothing yearly except royal service when it happens.

Dorset. Extent, Monday before the Circumcision, 4 Edw. I.
Merswod. The manor (extent given), including 20l. rent from the manor of Chidiok, 18s. 9d. rent of the hundred of Wytechirche, and 8s. pleas and perquisites of the fair of Wytech [irche].
Mortestorn. 2 knights' fees held by William de Mortestorn, doing nothing but royal service.
Pyneford. Two parts of 1 fee held by John de Mohun, worth 5 marks to Felicia de Cheyny who holds it of the said John, doing nothing but royal service.
Weston. 1 fee held by Robert de Maundevill, doing nothing but royal service.

Oxford. Inq., Wednesday after St. Hilary, 4 Edw. I.
Netelbedde. The manor (extent given) held of Edmund earl of Cornwall, rendering 8s. yearly and doing suit at his court of Bensinton.
It has no advowson, for a certain king when he had the manor of Bensington gave the church with the chapel of La Netelbedde to the abbey of Dorckcestre which still holds it.
Heir as above, aged 15.
Oxford. Extent (undated).
La Netelbedde. Part of the land, viz.—the court and garden worth 4s., demesne land worth 45s., rent of assize 39s., homage 4s., and wood &c. 2s. yearly, held of Edmund earl of Cornwall by 4s. rent; the chapel pertains to the church of Bensington, which a certain king gave to the abbey of Dorckecestre.

The value of these fees is unknown beyond wardships and reliefs when they shall happen, for no suits are due at the courts of the chief lords.

155. Henry le Forcer.
Writ of certiorari to the sheriff of Salop, on the complaint of Margery, daughter and one of the heirs of William de Harecurt, that the escheator detains from her the heir of the said Henry, some time her tenant of the manor of Ayleston, 18 July, 3 Edw. I.
Salop. Inq. made at Brocton the morrow of the Circumcision, 4 Edw. I.
Richard de Harecourt, grandfather of the said Margery, held the marriage of Henry le Forcer, by reason of a tenement which William le Forcer his father, whose heir he was, held of the said Richard, and sold the said marriage to Nicholas le Forcer, uncle of the said Henry. The king and the lords of the honour of Montgomery never had the marriage of the said Henry or his predecessors.

Netherhaddon. The manor (extent given) with rents at Haddon and Roulesley, held of the king in chief by service of ⅓ knight's fee.
Robert his son, aged 15, is his next heir.
Writ of ad plenum certiorari, on the complaint of Thomas de Lovetot, that the escheator had taken into the king's hand the manor of [Wishou ?] which was held of the said Thomas by knight's service, 22 July, 4 [Edw. I.] (defective.)

Writ (of certiorari), on the complaint of Fulk son of the said Robert that the escheator had taken the manor of Sutton Madok, whereof the said Robert had enfeoffed him, into the king's hand, 13 Sept. 4 Edw. I.
Salop. Inq. Friday before St. Michael, 4 Edw. I.
Sutton Madok. The said Robert, before he took his journey towards the Holy Land, enfeoffed the said Fulk of the manor, to him and his heirs for ever, and he was in seisin thereof until the escheator took the manor into the king's hand after the decease of the said Robert, who had no seisin there after the said demise.

Writ of plenius certiorari to the justice of Chester, on the complaint of Robert son of the said Robert, that the escheator had taken the manor of Mereburi whereof his father had enfeoffed him, into the king's hand, 20 Oct. 4 Edw. I.

Runham. Two parts of the manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by the courtesy of England, because he married Beatrice sometime a co-heir of Walter de Evermuhe, who had them as her pourparty of the said inheritance; and the whole manor is held of the king in chief by service of two measures (mutarum) of wine and two hundred pearmain pears (pirorum per manen') yearly.
The heirs of this tenement are the three daughters of Joland de Evermuhe, Walter de Burgo married Euphemia, Geoffrey de Fontibus married Margery, and Walter de Billingheye married Alice (Elicia) the youngest, aged 26 and more.
Writ to the sheriff of Gloucester, escheator there, commanding him to receive from the bailiff of the abbot of Fécamp's (Feskam) liberty of Slouthtre a previous inquisition which he made and detains, and if he shall be unwilling to deliver it, then to enter upon the liberty and make inquisition himself, 27 Nov. 4 Edw. I.
Gloucester. Inq. made before the sheriff, escheator there, Wednesday after St. Nicholas, 5 Edw. I.

Wilts. Inq. Wednesday after St. Gregory, 4 Edw. I. (defaced.)
Bratton and Dulton. Certain lands, &c., were held by (William Dansy ?), by serjeanty of keeping the king's larder, whose son Richard Dansy changed the service without warrant to another, viz.—finding a serjeant horseman in the king's army for ... days at his own cost, and made fine for the change before Sir Robert Passelewe viz.—10 marks yearly, whereof the tenants should answer for a third and the said Richard for the residue. Philip Marmiun held there 1 virgate land which was rated at 2s. payable to the king by the hands of the said Richard, and nevertheless did to the lord of the fee (the services ?) accustomed, which virgate Peter son of Warin claims to have of the gift of the said Philip. After the death of the said Richard, his son Richard succeeded, and being unable to pay the said rent, the sheriff commanded the bailiff of the hundred of Westbury to distrain upon him and all the tenants, who thus paid to the sheriff, and in no other way did the said Philip hold of the king in chief.
Westburi manor. 6 virgates land held of Sir Reginald de Pavely ..., and 6 virgates land, held of the fee of Sir Thomas Maudut by service of ⅓ knight's fee to the two lords when scutage is levied ; also 20a. meadow, pasture, 57s. 6d. rent of assize &c.
He had two legitimate sons Philip and William; Philip the first born, who died before his father, lived with a woman as his wife as long as he lived and begat of her a son Roger, but the jury know not whether he married her or not; William married and had a son ; and Philip the father also had two legitimate daughters Eva and Iseult (Ysoda) who are of full age.

Wilts. Inq. Wednesday after St. Wulstan, 5 Edw. I.
He held 10½ virgates land in demesne, viz.—
[Westburi ?] 7 virgates land of the demesne of Reginald de Pavely, who issued from the elder, and of the heirs of Thomas Maudud, who issued from the younger sister, held by knight's service, rendering ½ mark to each when scutage runs.
[Bratton and Dulton ?] 1 virgate land held as abovesaid of Sir Richard Dansy of Dulton.
[Westbury, Bremelrigge, La Hurste and Brock.] 1 virgate land held of Thomas de Tetteburne for 10s.; 17½a. land, held of Richard Saveri, rendering 12d. yearly to his heirs; 3a. held of Robert de Bortone [alias de Burton], rendering 2d. yearly; 3a. held of John Adelelm ; 2a. held of William Saveri; a croft of 4a. held of John de Lye, rendering 2s. yearly; also 20a. meadow, pasture, 57s. 6d. rent of assize, services, customs, &c.
His son and heir begat of his wife a son Roger, aged 17, who is his next heir.
Wilts. Inq. The day of the Assumption, 5 Edw. I.
To the same effect as the last, but 18a. are held of Richard Saveri, rendering 12d. yearly to Peter, son of Warin his assign; and 15½a. land with a croft of 4a. and 3a. meadow are held of John de Lye.
