To the abbot of Innsgad [in the diocese of Killaloe], and Denis Odeag and Matthew Obtiel, canons of Killaloe (Laon [i]en.). Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Matthew Igriffa, clerk, of the diocese of Killaloe, contained that after he had been dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he was made a clerk, upon the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Kyllynally in the said diocese becoming void in a certain way, he got provision ordered to be made to him thereof by the said authority, but that before presenting the letters of the said mandate to the appointed executor thereof, and before any collation had been made to him in virtue of them, he took possession, and has held it for some time, as he still does, provision being subsequently made to him by the said executor of the said vicarage, which he has similarly continued to detain since such provision, taking the fruits for about three years before and after it was made to him. The said vicarage being therefore still void as above, the pope hereby orders the above three to collate and assign it, yearly value not exceeding 4 marks sterling, to the said Matthew. The pope further dispenses him not to be bound for five years, whilst engaged in the study of letters, to be promoted to deacon's or priest's orders. To the dean of Armagh, and Patrick Oacdhga (?) and Donald Makassady, canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Patrick Omerguy, a canon of Derry (Daren. recte Deren.), that Magonius Omachul, rector of the parish church of Accoduhaid in the diocese of Derry (Daren.), for whose lifetime, as some allege, the said rectory was erected by authority of the ordinary into a prebend of Derry (Deren.), openly keeps a concubine, has dilapidated the goods of the said parish church, and has committed perjury, and, having by exercising the office of a secular judge incurred ipso facto sentence of excommunication, in virtue of a statute of Nicholas, bishop of Derry (Daren. recte Deren.), has celebrated masses and other divine offices, in contempt of the Keys, thereby contracting irregularity. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Patrick (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, after he had been made a clerk to be promoted to all, [even] holy orders and receive and retain a benefice, even if it had cure of souls or were a canonry and prebend in a cathedral church, after which he was so promoted and obtained a canonry and prebend of the said church of Derry (Daren. recte Deren.), yearly value not exceeding 3 marks sterling, and who for fear of the power of the said Ogonius [sic] has no hope of obtaining justice in the city and diocese of Derry (Deren. ? recte Deren.)), will accuse the said Magonius before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him from the said rectory, and in that event to collate and assign it, yearly value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, to the said Patrick. To John Odonna, a canon of Annaghdown (Enachdunen.). Mandate to make provision of the monastery of SS. Peter and Paul and St. Mary, Lysgabayn, O.S.A., in the diocese of Clogher, yearly value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, void by the death of abbot William extra R.c., if they find him fit, to Laurence Mechgugyr, a canon of the same, who is illegitimate (being the son of a former abbot of the said monastery and an unmarried woman, related in the third degree of affinity, his father being professed of the said order and a priest, of noble birth, since whom two other persons have intervened as heads of the said monastery), has made his profession (although, as some allege, the person into whose hands he made it was not a true abbot of the said monastery), and has had himself promoted to all holy orders without having obtained any other [sic] dispensation in regard to the said defect, believing that he could lawfully do so by his entry into religion, and, having been so promoted, has celebrated masses in the said orders in the said monastery and other places, and otherwise taken part in divine offices; whether the said monastery be void as above, or be still void by the death extra R.c. of Bernard, sometime abbot, or be void in any other way. The pope specially dispenses him to use the said orders, and act as abbot of the said monastery; with further grant to be blessed by any catholic bishop of his choice in communion with the apostolic see, without prejudice to the bishop of Clogher. To John Oculeayn, William Magacdha, and Magonius Omynayd, canons of Tuam. Mandate to collate and assign to William de Stantona, a canon professed of the monastery of Ballintober (Ville fontis sancti Patritii), O.S.A., in the diocese of Tuam, the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Robyn in the said diocese, yearly value not exceeding 4 marks sterling, in the patronage of the abbot and convent of St. Michael's, Mayo, of the said order and in the said diocese, and wont to be held by canons of St. Michael's, so long void that by the Lateran statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Thady (Thyhius) Ofrescyl (?), priest, of the said diocese, who is to be summoned and removed, has detained possession of it for about four years without any title; notwithstanding that the said William is illegitimate, being the son of a clerk and an unmarried woman, on account of which defect the pope hereby specially dispenses him to receive and retain the said vicarage for life, and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases.
