Union, at the recent petition of William Smyt, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Dunnyngton in the diocese of Lincoln, bachelor in decrees (who, as he alleges, has betaken himself from the realm of England to Rhodes, and has there for some years served the Christian religion and the catholic faith), (fn. 2) of the parish church of Ylston in the diocese of St. Davids (Meneven.), yearly value not exceeding 15 gold florins of the Camera, which he holds by papal dispensation with the said vicarage, to the latter, value not exceeding 20 such florins, of the Camera, which he holds by papal dispensation with the said vicarage, to the latter, value not exceeding 20 such florins, for as long as he holds it. The pope's will is that the cure of souls, etc., of the said church of Ylston shall not be neglected, and that on the death or cession of the said vicarage by the said William, the said union shall be dissolved. 1484. Non. Dec. (5 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 2v.)	To the bishop of Kilmacduagh (Duacen.), and Malachy Omolonay and Ra[y]mund de Burgo, canons of the same. Mandate to collate and assign to Florence Ogeranan, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Kyllokyllyn in the diocese of Kilmacduagh, a canonry of Clonfert and the prebend called the prebend of Kylleausbucmaellam therein, yearly value not exceeding 2 marks sterling, void by the death extra R.c. of Oddo Meaegam [sic]; notwithstanding that he holds the said vicarage, of the same value. 1484/5. Non. Jan. (5 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 21r.)	To Roger Macnonne (?), John Odubyin, and Cormac (Carmacio) Osyagayl, canons of Derry (Deren.). Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Laurence Ogallen Bhau, clerk, of the diocese of Raphoe, that Nicholas Omechakayn, dean of Raphoe, being blind of one eye (fn. 3) and a notorious and public fornicator, has committed perjury, incurred sentence of excommunication, and has long sustained and even now sustains it, and has led a lay rather than a clerical life. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Laurence (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a bishop and an unmarried woman related in the fourth degree of kindred and the same degree of affinity, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, in virtue of which he had himself made a clerk, and who for fear of the power of the said Nicholas dare not meet him in the city and diocese of Raphoe) will accuse the said Nicholas before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, or enough thereof for deprivation, to deprive and remove the said Nicholas, and in that event to collate and assign the said deanery, which is non-elective and has cure of souls, and whose yearly value does not exceed 30 marks sterling. to the said Laurence. The pope hereby specially dispenses him to receive and retain it; notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Vite etc. [5½ pp.]
4 Non. Feb. (2 Feb.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 67r.)	To John Odonna, a canon of Tuam. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that a canonry of Tuam and the prebend called the prebend of the small churches of Conicle and Connebuemara (?), and the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Baleinroba in Conkule, in the diocese of Tuam, have been so long void that their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Edmund de Burgo the elder, clerk, has detained the said canonry and prebend, and Kervalus Okyle, priest, the said vicarage, for many years without any title or right, and still detain them. And the recent petition of Edmund de Burgo the younger, clerk, of the said diocese, of noble birth by both parents; contained that the fruits, etc., of the said canonry and prebend would be too slight for his maintenance, etc., and that if the said vicarage, yearly value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, were united thereto for his lifetime he could better maintain himself, etc. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above canon to summon the said Edmund the elder and Kervalus, and to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend, yearly value also not exceeding 8 marks sterling, and the said vicarage, to the said Edmund the younger, if found fit, and moreover to unite the vicarage to the canonry and prebend for as long as he shall hold the latter; removing the said Edmund the elder and Kervalus. 6 Id. Feb. (8 Feb.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 75r.)	To the prior of St. Mary's, Dorean, in the diocese of Elphin, and Dermit Oflannagan and Cornelius Osgingyn, canons of Elphin. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the rectory of the lands of Corcachlayn in the diocese of Elphin has been so long void that there is no certain knowledge of the way of its voidance, and that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Malachy Oflannagan, dean of Elphin, alleging that it belongs to the deanery, and the chapter, alleging that it belongs [to the chapter], and Eugenius Oberyn, archdeacon of the same, alleging that it belongs to the archdeaconry, have, or one of them has, without any title or right, held possession of its fruits, etc., for many years, and still do or does so. (fn. 4) And the recent petition of Renaldus Idunabra (?), a canon of Elphin, contained that if the said rectory were erected into a prebend of the church of Elphin and provision thereof made to him, who holds a canonry of the said church, in which there is not a fixed number of canons, the scandals and controversies, etc., which, it is feared, will arise between the said dean and archdeacon and chapter (the members of which falsely allege that the said rectory belongs to them (fn. 5) ) would probably be obviated, etc. At the petition, therefore, of the said Renaldus, who alleges that at the time when the said dean, the said archdeacon, and the said chapter or the greater or sounder part thereof, and Nicholas, bishop of Elphin, created him a canon, they consented that provision should be made to him of the said rectory, in order that he might have wherewith to maintain himself, (fn. 6) the pope hereby orders the above three to summon the said dean and archdeacon and others concerned, and inform themselves in regard to the foregoing, and if they find that the said rectory, which is without cure, and whose yearly value does not exceed 8 marks sterling, is void in any way soever, and if the said bishop, dean, archdeacon, and chapter consent, to erect it into a prebend of the said church for as long as the said Re(naldus) shall hold it, and to appropriate to such prebend for its endowment the fruits, etc., of the said rectory, and, in the event of their so doing, to collate and assign the said prebend to the said Re(naldus), removing the said dean and archdeacon, and any other unlawful detainers. On his resignation or death the said erection, etc., shall be null and void, and the rectory shall return to its pristine state. Apostolice sedis providentia circumspecta. (Gratis pro deo. Juravit.) Confirmation at the recent petition of the parishioners of the parish church of St. Nicholas, Galwye, (fn. 7) in the diocese of Annaghdown, of the erection and endowment by Donatus, archbishop of Tuam (who rules the church of Annaghdown, united in perpetuity to that of Tuam), at the petition of the said parishioners, of the said parish church into a collegiate church, to be ruled by a college of a warden and eight priests or vicars, instead of by one vicar, as thentofore. 7 Kal. Feb. (26 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 84v.)	To the abbot of Holy Trinity, Lochque, in the diocese of Elphin, and the dean and the archdeacon of Elphin. Mandate to collate and assign to Malachy Ohely, priest, of the diocese of Elphin, the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Tamnach in the said diocese, yearly value not exceeding 3 marks sterling, so long void by the death of Ymarus Mecleri extra R.c. that its collation has by the Lateran statutes lapsed to the apostolic see, although Donatus Obenachan, prior of the priory of Inchmacnerin in Lough Key (de Insula Macneri de Lochque), O.S.A., in the said diocese, has without any title or right detained possession for many years, and still detains it; summoning and removing the said Donatus. The pope further dispenses the said Malachy to receive and retain with it for life any other benefice with cure. Vite etc. (Gratis pro deo.) [3½ pp.]
4 Kal. Feb. (29 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 106r.)	To the provosts of the churches of Du(n)bettan, Arbernethy [sic], and Kilmon, (fn. 9) in the dioceses of Glasgow, Dunblane, [and] Lismore. Mandate to collate and assign to Walter Drummond, clerk, of the diocese of Dunkeld, M.A., who is of a race of barons by both parents, and is a kinsman of James, king of Scots, the parish church of Federke[r]n in the diocese of St. Andrews, yearly value not exceeding 40l. sterling, void by the death of Alexander de Oguilby extra R.c., although William, archbishop of St. Andrews, has detained possession of it for between two and three years, under pretext of a union made thereof by papal authority to the archiepiscopal mensa, and revoked by the same authority before the death of the said Alexander, without any other title or right; whether it be void as above, or by the death of James de Sancto Claro, to whom Sixtus IV made provision for it, void as above, and who died extra R.c. before the letters of his said grant had been drawn up. 4 Non. Feb. (2 Feb.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 114r.)	To Richard de Burgo, a canon of Annaghdown (Enachdunen.). Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that a canonry of Annaghdown and the prebend of Leccacholie therein have been so long void that by the Lateran statutes their collation has lapsed to the pope, although Donatus Macynyla, priest, of the said diocese, has without any canonical title detained possession of them for some time. And the recent petition of John de Burgo, scholar, of the diocese of Tuam, contained that a dispute arose between Maurianus Omuryle and Malachy Macarten, priests, of the dioceses of Tuam and Annaghdown, about the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Kilmaellan in the said diocese of Tuam, each of them claiming it under pretext of an ordinary or a papal provision, or a mandate to collate; that divers alleged that neither Maurianus nor Malachy had any right; and that if the said vicarage were united to the said canonry and prebend for the life of the said John it would help him to maintain himself. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above canon to summon the said Donatus, Maurianus, and Malachy, and if they find the said canonry and prebend to be void in any way, and that neither Maurianus nor Malachy has any right in or to the said vicarage, to unite the latter to the former for the lifetime only of the said John, who desires to be made a clerk, and who was lately ordered by papal authority to be dispensed on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and to collate and assign to him, after he has been made a clerk in virtue of the said dispensation, the said canonry and prebend and vicarage united thereto, yearly values not exceeding 1 and 4 marks sterling, respectively; removing the said Donatus, Malachy, and Maurianus, etc. Dignum arbitramur. 10 Kal. Feb. (23 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 147v.)	To Henry Meldrum, clerk, of the diocese of St. Andrews. Reservation, as below. His recent petition contained that when litigation was feared between him and James Ogylby, (fn. 10) [now] rector of the parish church of Neudosk (?) in the diocese of St. Andrews, provision of which, on its becoming void, each of them claimed to have been made to him, the said Henry desisted from the prosecution of his right, and consented to the said James's remaining in possession. The pope, therefore, hereby reserves to him a yearly pension for life of 10 marks of the money of Scotland on the fruits, etc., of the said church, value not exceeding 30 such marks, until provision has been made to him by the archbishop of St. Andrews of a benefice of a yearly value of 40 marks; the said pension to be paid to him by the said James, who has consented by his proctor, Peter Altissen, of the diocese of Vich (Vicen.), (fn. 11) and by his successors, yearly at Christmas; with the usual sanctions for non-payment or delay, etc. Vite etc. [2½ pp. +.]
3 Non. Feb. (3 Feb.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 229r.)	To the chancellor of Kilmacduagh (Duacen.), and Malachy Omullony and Florence Ogerranan, canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Kylfinbara in the diocese of Kilmacduagh, which is in the gift of the abbot and convent of the monastery of Kilmacduagh (de Petra Duacen.), O.S.A., in the said diocese, and is ruled sometimes by canons of the said monastery, and sometimes by secular clerks, has through the negligence of the said abbot and convent been without a rector for between sixteen and eighteen years, wherefore its collation has by the Lateran statutes lapsed to the apostolic see, although the said abbot and convent have meanwhile held possession of the fruits, etc., without any title. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three to summon the said abbot and convent, and to collate and assign the said vicarage, yearly value not exceeding 2 marks sterling, to Maurice Macgillavanath, priest, of the said diocese of Kilmacduagh, who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and who has had himself so promoted; the said abbot and convent being removed. 4 Kal. Feb. (29 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 233r.)	To the bishop of Derry (Deren.), and Roger Mecnomie (?), a canon of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the deanery of Derry is at present void, (fn. 12) although Thomas Macchmil (?) and John Marzollayrdee, priests, of the said diocese, each of them alleging that it belongs to him, molest one another before the above two judges about it and its fruits, and although one of them has detained possession of it for more than three years. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above two to summon the said Thomas and John Marzollayrdee, and if they find that neither of them has any right, and if they find the said deanery to be void in any way, to collate and assign it, a major dignity, yearly value not exceeding 50 marks sterling, to John Odobym, priest, of the diocese of Derry, the said Thomas and John Marzollayrdee being removed. 1485. 4 Kal. April. (29 March.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 238v.)	To Bernard Obuuill, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Ardsraha in the diocese of Derry (Deren.) (fn. 13). Collation and provision to him, who holds no benefice, and who for that reason has betaken himself in person to Rome and the apostolic see, of the said vicarage, yearly value not exceeding 9 marks sterling, void at the said see, and therefore ipso facto reserved, by the resignation to the pope of Patrick Ubuyll; with mandate hereby to the abbot of Cella nigra, Derry, and Tholomeus Obuyll and Patrick Ocenan, canons of Derry, to induct him, etc. Vite etc. (Gratis pro deo.) To Eugene Offay, prior of the priory of Acroym Omaney in the diocese of Clonfert, and Davit [sic] de Burgo and Florence Ogeruan, canons of Clonfert. Mandate to collate and assign to Theobald de Burgo, clerk, of the diocese of Annaghdown, the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Meraymor in the said diocese, of lay patronage and yearly value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, so long void that there is no certain knowledge of the way of its voidance, and that by the Lateran statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although William Olacnayn, priest, and Thomas Makidelana and William de Burgo, clerks, have detained it, and, dividing its fruits, etc., between them, have held possession of them for many years, from fear of whom the said Theobald dares not meet them within the city and diocese of Annaghdown; summoning and removing the said three. Kal. Jan. (1 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 290v.)	To Malachy Omulloni, canon of Kilmacduagh (Duacen.). Rehabilitation, etc., as below. Upon Sixtus IV learning that a canonry of Kilmacduagh and the prebend called the prebend of Ke(n)mura (?) therein, and the rectory of the parish church of Kilthomus, of lay patronage, in the diocese of Kilmacduagh, had been so long void that by the Lateran statutes their collation had lapsed to the apostolic see, although Walter de Burgo, clerk, and Geoffrey Odunchw, priest, had without any right held possession of the fruits, etc., of the said rectory for about eleven years; and upon its being set forth to the said pope by the above Malachy that if the said rectory were united for his life to the said canonry and prebend he could more easily maintain himself, he ordered the prior of the monastery of Yn[i]scronahin in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.), and John [son] of Thady (Tathei) Machnamara and Donatus Ograda, canons of Killaloe, to summon the said Walter and Geoffrey, and to unite the said rectory to the said canonry and prebend for the lifetime of the said Malachy, or for as long as he held the latter, and to collate and assign to him the said canonry and prebend and rectory. Subsequently, as the recent petition of the said Malachy contained, the said canons, without making the said union, made him collation and provision of the said canonry and prebend, in virtue of which he obtained possession, and still holds it. Seeing that before the date of the said mandate Cornelius, bishop of Kilmacduagh, had ordained, with consent of the chapter, that every clerk of his diocese should within a month wear the clerical habit, under penalty of disability to hold any benefices, and that the said Malachy had not obeyed, thereby incurring the said disability, no mention of which was made in the said mandate; and seeing that the said canons did not make the said union before they made him the said collation, as the form of the said mandate seemed to require, he fears lest the said mandate and the collation and provision made to him in virtue thereof may be fruitless, and that he may be molested in regard to the said canonry and prebend. The pope, therefore, hereby abolishes all irregularity contracted by his not obeying the said order, and grants that the said mandate and the collation and provision made to him in virtue thereof shall hold good from the date of these presents, as if mention had been made therein of the said disability, and as if it had been abolished, and as if no mention had been made of the said union, howsoever the said canonry and prebend, whose yearly value does not exceed 5 marks sterling, be void, even if they have been so long void that by the Lateran statutes their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, etc. Solet sedes apostolica.
