To the abbots of Tracton (de Albo tractu) and St. Mary's alias St. John the Evangelist's, Gill Abbey (de Antro sancti Finbarri), in the diocese of Cork, and the official of Cork. Mandate to collate and assign to John Roche, rector of St. Mary's, Scandon, in the diocese of Cork (who was lately dispensed on account of illegitimacy, as the son of unmarried parents of a race of earls and barons, (i) by authority of the ordinary to be promoted to minor orders and hold a benefice without cure, (ii) by papal authority to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold any compatible benefices with and without cure, and to resign or exchange them, etc.; and who in virtue thereof has had himself promoted to minor orders and obtained the said church), the precentorship of Cork, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, value 20 marks sterling, void by the death without the Roman court of Donatus Yrriwrdayn (recte Yrriourdayn). He is hereby dispensed to receive it and hold it for life with the said church, value 5 marks sterling, or any two other benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign or exchange them, etc., and also not to be bound for seven years to be promoted to any holy order, whilst studying at an university, provided that he become a subdeacon within a year. Declaration, as below. The recent petition of Benedict de Salutatis, Leonard de Vernacciis, Alexander de Bardis, Francis de Paciis, John Solosmei, merchants of Florence, attached to the Roman court, and Laurence Mathie, citizen and merchant of Rome, contained that they lent to the late John Faxholes [sic], O. Min., archbishop, then [archbishop] elect, of Armagh, 1100 gold florins of the papal Camera, which he expended for the expedition of the apostolic letters, etc.; that he has died without the said court without having had possession of the administration of the said church, and without paying them the said sum; and that it is called in doubt whether his successor or the archiepiscopal mensa of Armagh is bound to give them satisfaction. At the said petition, alleging that they have sustained the said debt for about three years, the pope hereby declares that the said archbishop's successor for the time being is so bound, and that they may have the same action against him as they would have had against John, if living; with mandate executory hereby to Stephen, cardinal priest of St. Adrian's. To the abbot of St. Mary's, Jerpoint (de Jeriponte), and the prior of St. John's without the walls of Kilkenny (Kilkenie), in the diocese of Ossory, and the precentor of Ossory. Mandate to collate and assign to Laurence Mortimer, clerk, of the diocese of Ossory, bachelor in decrees (who, after having been made a clerk by authority of the ordinary, was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of an abbot of the Cistercian order and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy and priest's orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and who has been presented by king Edward to the archdeaconry of Ossory, in accordance with old custom), the said archdeaconry, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, value 50 marks sterling, so long void by the deprivation of John Ohedian that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see, although the said John has detained it for between four and five years since the said deprivation. Laurence is hereby dispensed to hold it, notwithstanding the said defect, etc., and to hold for life any compatible benefices etc., and resign or exchange them, etc. Vite etc. (In the margin: Maij.) To Edmund Maundevyll, precentor of Lismore, a papal acolyte. Reservation as below. The pope lately made provision to John, [bishop] elect of Lismore and Waterford, of those united churches. Seeing that the above Edmund was commended to the pope by the chapter of Waterford, and was elected by the chapter of Lismore for the said churches; and seeing that for the prosecution of the election he has come to the Roman court and stayed there at great expense, the pope reserves to him, who is also a papal chaplain, is of noble birth, is skilled in canon law, and was long the official-general of the late Robert, bishop of Lismore and Waterford, a yearly pension for life of 12l. sterling on the episcopal mensa of Lismore and Waterford, to be paid by the said John, even after his consecration, and by his successors. Collation and provision to him, who is also a continual commensal of the pope, of the deanery of Dunkeld, a major dignity, value 50l. sterling, void by the death of Patrick Yhoung without the Roman court, and reserved to the pope in virtue of his general reservation of all major dignities; whether it be so void, or by the death of Duncan Bunch without the said court (before the letters had been drawn up by which the pope had granted him provision of the said deanery, void and reserved as above), or whether it be void in any other way.
