Order of the King in Council, dated Hampton Court,
for a pension of 300l. per an. to the Earl of Stirling :
to be paid by the Governor or Commander in Chief
of New York, with arrears as follow, out of the
surplus of the net revenue of the Colony of New
York : with liberty to said Earl or his agent at
New York yearly to inspect the public accounts
of that revenue : all by reason that said Earl has
attended the Committee for Trade and Plantations
concerning his claim to the propriety of Long
Island within the Province of New York : upon
which the said Committee have reported Aug. 16
last that in 1663 the Earl of Clarendon on behalf
of the Duke of York did treat with the Earl of
Stirling for his said interest for which the said
Duke afterwards promised to pay 3,500l. "as the
Lord Berkeley informed him" [Stirling] ; but the
Earl not having received same the Duke agreed with
him in 1674 for a release of all his pretensions to
the Colony of New York (whereof Long Island is part)
in return for a grant of a pension of 300l. per an. for
life out of the net surplus revenue as above ; but
there having not yet accrued any net profits out
of the said revenue the said pension is above 14
years in arrear.

Launceston Priory, and now annexed to the Duchy of
Cornwall,the premises containing a moiety of the Town
Place, being 1¼ acres and 60 acres of land disposed
in various closes detailed : all forming part of the
manor of Bradford, and demised to John Frayne,
of Langtree, by Prince Charles, 1622, Dec. 3, for
the lives of Grace his wife and Thomas and Robert
his sons, at 18s. per an. rent ; of which lives Robert
is yet in being : and likewise (b) of a tenement called
Bradford, in Bradford in the said parish of Pyworthy,

all books, bonds and other writings relating to the
revenue ; also weights, scales and other utensils.

of allegiance and supremacy and the oath of trust
and do give bond for their trust. (9) You are to

to him monthly abstracts of your receipts, payments,
cash etc., "we having appointed the said
William Smith for that service and to reside at
Belfast ; in order that the Vice-Treasurer or Receiver

The Treasury Lords to the Commissioners for the
12d. Aid for the city of Lincoln and the county of
the said city. Being very sensible of the great
loss their Majesties have sustained by the partial
execution of the Poll Act, we earnestly recommend
you to diligently attend the service of the present
Aid. After your first meeting take special care
to appoint conscientious persons to be assessors
and before you admit them administer to them
the oath as in the Act and do not admit in any
place the same persons to be both assessors and
sub-collectors. (The like letter to the several
counties, cities and places in England and Wales
detailed as in the Act for said Aid.)

Royal constitution and appointment of Chidley Brook
as Collector and Receiver of New York and its
dependencies in America, to levy and collect all
duties, dues and revenues there, with the salary
of 200l. per an., payable out of the revenue of
New York as from June 24 last : all as amply as
Lucas Sanson [Santen], gent., Mathew Plowman,
gent., or any other predecessor therein.
Followed by : instructions to the said Brook : being
identical with those in Plowman's case, supra, Calendar
of Treasury Books, Vol. VIII, pp. 1577-8, 1663-4,
save that Article (7) is altered to the following :
"Whereas we are informed that some of the Colonies
adjoining to our Province of New York under
colour of grants or upon some other groundless
pretences endeavour to obstruct the trade of New
York and Albany, you are not to suffer any innovation
within the river of New York nor any goods
to pass up the same but what shall have paid the
duties at New York, the same being agreeable to
the laws of our said Province and to former practice"
as well as necessary for the collecting those Customs.
