To the abbot of Holyrood, Edinburgh. Mandate, at the recent petition of Edward Lawedre, archdeacon of Lothian in St. Andrews, M.A.—containing that on the voidance of the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of St. Giles, Edinburgh, by the death of James Leonis, he was, in the absence from the realm of king James, patron of the said parish church, presented by Murdac, duke of Albany, governor-general of the realm, to bishop Henry, who instituted him; and that Edward doubts whether the said presentation and institution, under which he obtained possession, hold good—to collate and assign the said vicarage, which is still void, value not exceeding 100l. sterling, to Edward, who took his degree of M.A. at Paris, and who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, (i) to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, (ii) to hold therewith two other compatible benefices, (iii) to hold any compatible benefices of any number and kind, with and without cure, be elected to dignities, even pontifical, and resign the said benefices, for exchange or otherwise, as often as he pleased; notwithstanding that Edward (whom lately, then holding the parish church of Suthak in the diocese of Glasgow, and having from the pope provision of the above archdeaconry, the pope dispensed to hold them together, first for five years, and then during the pleasure of the apostolic see, and to resign them, simply or for exchange), having resigned the said parish church, holds the said archdeaconry, a non-major dignity with cure, to which certain canonries and prebends are annexed, value not exceeding 120l. sterling; that papal provision was lately made to him of canonries and prebends of Moray and Glasgow, value likewise not exceeding 120l. sterling, and that the pope lately granted him provision of a canonry of Glasgow and another of Dunkeld, with reservation of as many prebends, and of a dignity etc., even with cure and elective, of one of them. To the bishop of Alet, the prior of Glasargy in the diocese of Ferns, and the archdeacon of Dublin. Mandate to collate and assign to Odo Magillaghe, priest, of the diocese of Elphin (who has this day [above, p. 355] received from the pope provision of the rectory of Bealachchy in the diocese of Leighlin, value not exceeding 1 mark), the canonry and prebend of Tulachmochima in Leighlin, value not exceeding 3 marks, of which, on their voidance by the death of Walter Louet, he received collation and provision from bishop John, by his ordinary authority, and of which he obtained and still holds possession, but doubts whether the said collation and provision of the canonry and prebend which, as the pope has learned, are still void as above, hold good. Mandate to collate and assign to Richard Brun, priest, of the diocese of Leighlin, the chancellorship of Leighlin, a non-major, non-elective dignity with cure, whose value with that of its annexed canonry and prebend of Kyllneyn does not exceed 4 marks, of which, on voidance by the death of John Fwyt, he received collation and provision from bishop John by his ordinary authority, but doubts etc. as in the preceding, mutatis mutandis. To the abbot of St. Mary's, Jerpoint (de Jeriponte), in the diocese of Ossory. Mandate to collate and assign to Thomas Faunt, canon of Limerick, priest, the canonry and prebend of Insnak in Ossory, value not exceeding 10 marks, of which, on their voidance by the resignation of Nicholas Hakete to bishop Denis, that bishop made collation and provision to the said Thomas, and of which he obtained possession, but doubts etc., as above, f. 183d. The collation is to be made whether the canonry and prebend became void in the way stated, or by the death of Maurice Talbot, or in any other way; and notwithstanding that Thomas holds the canonry and prebend of Effyn in Limerick, and the rectory of Balliburre in the diocese of Ossory, value altogether not exceeding 15 marks.
