5 Kal. July. S. Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 78.)	To patriarchs etc. Requesting safe-conduct, during two years for William Croyser, archdeacon of Teviotdale (Thevidalue) in the church of Glasgow, papal acolyte and nuncio, and member of the pope's household, whom the pope is sending to divers parts [not named] on business of the pope and the Roman church. Cum dilectum filium.
12 Kal. Feb. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 92d.)	To Master Simon de Theramo, doctor of canon and civil law, papal nuncio and collector for the papal camera in England. Mandate as below. The pope has recently learned that some debtors of the camera in the parts where he is collector assert that in the General Council of Pisa Alexander V remitted sums due to the camera. In order that the collector and any other may see what was remitted, and what not, the pope, at the petition of Master John de Scribanis, procurator of the pope's treasury (fisci) and of the said camera, has caused to be inserted in these presents a copy, taken from the register of the letters of Alexander V, of that pope's motu proprio letters, Licet ad universalis, addressed to Francis, archbishop of Narbonne, papal chamberlain, and dated at Pisa, 7 Id. Aug. anno 1 [1409], whereby, mainly for the relief of the expenses caused by attendance at the said Council, he remitted all debts or arrears, incurred up to the day of his accession, in respect of common services, annates or first fruits, tenths, procurations or visitations, fruits medii temporis and spolia, and belonging, under any constitutions, customs, impositions or reservations of his predecessors or any others, to the said pope's person only; absolving the debtors from excommunication etc. incurred by delay in payment, and dispensing them on account of any irregularity contracted. To such payments of the said debts and arrears as had already been made up to the publication of the above letters the remission was not to apply, and the above chamberlain was ordered to cause the pope's remission, absolution and dispensation to be observed. The present pope hereby decrees that the present exemplification shall have the force of the original, and orders the above collector to exact from all liable, giving a receipt, Peter's pence and all other rights of the camera which he shall judge not to be comprised under the above remission, proceeding by ecclesiastical censure etc., as is customary in the case of debts of the camera, and invoking, if necessary, the aid of the secular arm. To patriarchs, etc. Requesting safe-conduct, during one year, for Urban de Florencia, a Carthusian, bearer of these presents, whom the pope is sending to France and other ultramontane parts [not named], on business of the pope and the Roman church. Requesting safe-conduct for Master Simon de Teramo, advocate of the papal consistory, papal nuncio, and collector for the camera in England, whom the pope is sending to divers parts [not named] on business of the pope and the Roman church. 15 Kal. April. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 182.)	To Master Simon de Theramo, doctor of canon and civil law, advocate of the papal consistory and collector for the camera in England. Confirmation of his loan to the camera, at two times, of 1,300 gold florins of the camera, and of the assignment to him of the same by Lewis, bishop of Maguelonne, the pope's vice-chamberlain, under date March 14, 1423, anno 6, to be recovered upon the fruits, etc., due to the camera in England. Kal. March. St Peter's, Rome. (f. 182d.)	To Master Simon de Teramo, doctor of canon and civil law, papal nuncio and collector for the camera in England. Declaration (at his petition containing that, especially since the death of Gregory XI, many Carthusian houses have been founded in the realm, and have in great part been endowed with [priories] of the Benedictine, Augustinian and other orders, and with secular benefices, by way of unions made to them by papal and ordinary authority; that such priories and benefices, thus united, were bound from of old to pay, and before the said unions did pay to the camera or to papal nuncios and collectors, certain yearly cesses called procurations; and that some priors and convents of the said newly founded and endowed houses refuse to pay them under pretext of a papal privilege about not paying procurations or other subsidies to papal nuncios and legates) that (seeing that the stipends of nuncios and collectors were divided among the churches, priories and other benefices of the realm proportionately, and that if some benefices were exempted, the share of others would have to be increased, or the deficiency made up from the unusually exhausted revenues of the camera, that such unions are always deemed to carry with them their burdens, and that the apostolic see willed such newly founded houses to be exempt from procurations of nuncios and legates, but not of nuncio-collectors, to whom the said procurations were assigned as fixed yearly stipends) the said privilege ought not to have extended and does not extend to nuncios and collectors and the said procurations; with mandate to levy and exact from such newly founded houses the said procurations on account of the said priories and benefices united to them, proceeding by ecclesiastical censure etc., and invoking, if necessary, the aid of the secular arm. Mandate to them, whom the pope is sending to England on business of himself and the Roman church, to make diligent enquiry as to the truth of what the pope has learned, namely, that archbishop Henry and the prior and chapter of Canterbury appointed for the year 1420 a Jubilee, after the manner of the Jubilee ordained by the popes, with promise to all who should visit the church of Canterbury of the plenary remission of sins gained in time of Jubilee by visit to the shrine of the Apostles at Rome, and appointed penitentiaries to give absolution from all sins or rather to ensnare simple souls and extort from them a profane reward, thereby setting up themselves against the apostolic see and the authority of the Roman pontiff, to whom alone so great a faculty has been granted by God; with faculty to compel witnesses to testify, proceeding by ecclesiastical censure without appeal; and mandate to acquaint the pope without delay with the result of their inquiry, in order that he may be able to take the proper measures. Faculty to him, whom the pope is sending as nuncio to the realm of England and its provinces, cities, lands and places on business of the pope and the Roman church, to absolve from excommunication all persons, secular and regular, in the said realm etc., who have obtained benefices simoniacally, to dispense them on account of consequent irregularity, and to rehabilitate them in respect of such and of any future benefices, and to make fresh collation, etc.; provided that such persons make restitution of the unlawfully received fruits to the papal camera or its collector, to be used in aid of the Holy Land etc. at the discretion of the pope. Of names and dates of collation he is to inform the camera or its collector in those parts. Cum te ad regnum.

Faculty—at the petition of John Fiton, rector of Stokport in the diocese of Lichfield, papal chamberlain (cubiculario nostro), containing that although he has held the said church by canonical collation for more than sixteen years, on Good Friday last Griffin Davnport, priest, of the said diocese, with certain accomplices entered the church by force, deprived of possession John and his procurators in spite of their resistance, and carried off tithes, oblations and other goods—after restoring John to possession, to warn the said Griffin and Christopher Damport, Peter de Arden, Charles de Arden, Richard de Damport and John Damport of Quiclache his brother, Thomas Asshtan of Breydbry, Robert Potter of Stokport, William Jacson, […] Robynson, John Barbur and Richard Parchevalle, laymen, of the said diocese, and their accomplices, and any other of Griffin's abettors, to restore to John, Griffin his corporal possession of the church, and he and the others the said tithes etc., and, in case of disobedience, to cite them to appear in person, and, in case of their non-appearance, to proceed against them by ecclesiastical censure, public excommunication, etc. Regimini universalis ecclesie.

To James, bishop of Trieste, papal nuncio in England, Henry, bishop of Winchester, Simon de Teramo, D.C.L., advocate of the papal consistory and collector for the camera in England, and John Stafford, canon of Salisbury, treasurer of England. Mandate to make inquiry about and to proceed against forgers in England of letters of the pope and the apostolic see and of the pope's penitentiary, and those who wittingly use such forgeries, causing them to be imprisoned, condemned and punished in accordance with the canons, and annulling and tearing up any such letters forged under the name of the pope or his predecessors; with the necessary faculties. To archbishops etc. Requesting safe-conduct, during one year, for Thomas, abbot of Paisley (de Pasleto), of the Order of Cluny, in the diocese of Glasgow, papal referendary, envoy of Charles, king of the French, who, having been sent to the pope by the said king, is being sent back to him by the pope.
