De Beneficiis Vacantibus



1404. 12 Kal. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 8.)	To the archbishop of Tuam, the abbot of St. Mary's, Cong (Congna), in the diocese of Tuam, and Thady (Tadeo) Oconchubucr, canon of Tuam (corrected in margin from the treasurer of Kilmacduagh). Mandate to collate and assign to William Ohallinaram, dean of Annadown, the rectory, of the patronage of laymen and value not exceeding 12 marks, of Gnomor in the diocese of Annadown (Tuam in margin), which church has a rector and a vicar, so long void—because, as the pope has learned, Cornelius Odallyd has detained it, as he still does, with the perpetual vicarage of Kylarduyn in the said diocese— that by the Lateran statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see; notwithstanding that he holds the said deanery, a dignity, which upon obtaining the said rectory he is to resign. 3 Kal. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 13d.)	To the abbot of Holy Trinity, Tuam, Thomas Ocormoucan, canon of Tuam and the official of Elphin. Mandate to collate and assign to Marianus Oflannakan, canon of Elphin, the perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 5 marks, of Termonchylyn in the diocese of Elphin, void by the death of William Machgillaychny; notwithstanding that he holds a canonry and prebend of Elphin and the rectory, without cure and value not exceeding 12 marks, of Cloindconcobur in the said diocese. Vite etc.
2 Non. April. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 14.)	To the bishops of Tuy and Elphin and the provost of Tuam. Mandate to collate and assign to Marianus Oflannagan, clerk, of the diocese of Elphin, the rectory, value not exceeding 12 marks, of Baisleg de Claincomcobar in the said diocese, void and reserved to the pope under John XXII's constitution Execrabilis because Maurice Oflanagan, sometime archdeacon of Elphin, held it for a month and more without dispensation with his said archdeaconry, a dignity with cure; notwithstanding that he has by authority of the ordinary been received as a canon of Elphin, and holds a certain yearly pension of 9s. as (loco) an ecclesiastical benefice. 9 Kal. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 43.)	To the bishop of Civitaten., and the provost and Odo Macdouncaidnabarg, canon, of Elphin. Mandate to collate and assign to Imarus Oconar, clerk, of the diocese of Elphin— who has had papal dispensation as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman to be promoted to all, even holy orders, and hold a benefice even with cure—the perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 5 marks, of Killmacnamugin in the said diocese, void by the death of Cristinus Ichonair. Vite etc.
Id. May. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 83.)	To the archdeacon of St. Asaph. Mandate to collate and assign to Matthew ap David, clerk, of the diocese of St. Asaph, if found fit in Latin, the parish church, value not exceeding 20 marks, of Marchweayl in the said diocese, void because the late Jorwerth ap Edin ap Graffath held it for a year and more without having himself ordained priest and without dispensation. Dignum [arbitramur].
17 Kal. Feb. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 132d.)	To the official of Achonry (Akaden.). Mandate to collate and assign to Eugene Ohagra, clerk, of the diocese of Achonry, who is in or about his eighteenth year and who has had papal dispensation as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, to be promoted, etc. as in f. 43, if found fit in Latin, the rectory, value not exceeding 15 marks, of Athlean in the said diocese, so long void by the death of Philip Oceandubain that by the Lateran statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see. Eugene is hereby dispensed on account of his defect of age. Dignum arbitramur.
[6 Kal. Feb. St. Peter's, Rome.] (f. 166.)	To the bishops of Tuy and London and the archdeacon of London. Mandate as below, f. 167d, on behalf of Roger Burstede. (Unfinished, and cancelled with strokes only. Identical as far as its goes, viz. to near the end of the dispensation). Litterarum, etc.
10 Kal. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 166d.)	To the archdeacon of Anglesey in Bangor. Mandate to collate and assign to John ap Willelmi (sic) Talior, clerk, of the diocese of Bangor, if found fit in Latin, the rectory, with cure and value not exceeding 40 marks, of Abdaron in the said diocese, void because the late William Thiknes obtained and held therewith for a year and more without dispensation the perpetual vicarage, also with cure, of the same church. Dignum arbitramur.
6 Kal. Feb. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 167d.)	To the bishops of Tuy and London and the archdeacon of London. Mandate to collate and assign to Roger Burstede, rector of St. Nicholas Oloff, London, bachelor of canon law— who lately had papal dispensation to hold for life two benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if one or both were a parish church or a perpetual vicarage with cure, or a dignity with cure, major in a metropolitan or cathedral or principal in a collegiate church, personatus or office, with or without cure, and to resign them for exchange or otherwise as often as he pleased and hold instead two similar or dissimilar incompatible benefices—the perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 30 marks, of St. Stephen, Saltassh, in the diocese of Exeter, void by the resignation, made to bishop Edmund, of John Drake the younger; notwithstanding that he holds St. Nicholas's, value not exceeding 20 marks. 1404. 3 Id. Jan. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 169d.)	To Maurice Ohuollachayn. Provision of a canonry in Limerick and another in Cloyne, with reservation of a prebend in each; notwithstanding that he holds a certain perpetual vicarage of Kyllyd in the diocese of Limerick. After five years he shall be unable to accept a prebend under these presents, and shall thereafter cease to be a canon of that one of the two churches in which he shall not have accepted a prebend. Vite etc.
	Concurrent mandate to the bishop of Tuy, the dean of Limerick and Richard Woent, canon of Cloyne. Vite etc.

Non. May. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 211.)	To Richard Montayne. Provision to him, a priest, of the canonry and prebend of Taghecomschan in Ferns, value not exceeding 24 marks. The pope recently, on their expected voidance through the promotion, made by the pope, and the then approaching consecration of Nicholas [now] archbishop, then elect, of Armagh, made reservation thereof [below f. 218] to John Swayne, clerk, of the diocese of Kildare. Swayne, who is an abbreviator of apostolic letters, has, as the pope has learned, resigned at the apostolic see his right, and the canonry and prebend have become void at the said see, and therefore reserved to the pope, through the said promotion and through the archbishop's consecration, which has taken place by the pope's order at the said see. The provision is made notwithstanding that Richard holds the parish church of Llannarmon in the diocese of St. Asaph, value not exceeding 40 marks, and that the pope has recently granted him provision of a benefice with or without cure, even if a major dignity with cure in the church of Meath, in the common or several gift of the bishop of Meath and the Augustinian prior and convent of Lantoney in the diocese of St. Davids. Vite etc.
	Concurrent mandate to the bishop of Tuy and the dean and archdeacon of Ferns. Vite etc.
14 Kal. May. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 218.)	To John Swayne, rector of Galtrym in the diocese of Meath. Reservation to him, an abbreviator of papal letters, of the canonries and prebends, value not exceeding 80 marks, of Newcastle (Novocastro) de Lyonys, alias near Lyonys, in Dublin and Taghcomschan alias Tacunsan in Ferns, which are shortly to become void through the promotion, made this day by the pope, and the approaching consecration of Nicholas elect of Armagh; notwithstanding that papal provision has lately been made to him of the treasurership of Dublin, a dignity with cure, to which a prebend of Dublin is annexed, of the parish church of Galtrym in the diocese of Meath, and of the canonry and prebend of Tamon in Ferns, value together not exceeding 220 marks, that he holds under papal letters canonries of Dublin and Ferns with expectations of prebends, and that the pope has lately dispensed him to hold for seven years, with Galtrym or other benefice having cure or otherwise incompatible, a benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible with Galtrym, even if an elective dignity, major or principal respectively, personatus or office, in a metropolitan, cathedral or collegiate church, and to resign both for exchange or otherwise as often as he pleased and hold instead two other similar or dissimilar incompatible benefices. The pope's will is that as soon as, under the present letters, he obtains possession of the said canonries and prebends of Newcastle in Dublin and Taghcomschan in Ferns (Dublinen. et de Novocastro thesaurariam (sic) cum vero Fernen. et de Taghcomschan canonicatuum et prebendarum predictorum), he is to resign the said canonry and prebend of Tamon in Ferns and all right therein or thereto, and that the said letters under which he holds canonries with expectations of prebends of Dublin and Ferns shall be null and void. Vite etc.
	Concurrent mandate to the bishops of Terracina and Tuy and John, elect of Kildare. Vite etc.
6 Kal. May. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 220.)	To the bishop of Volterra. Mandate to collate and assign to Robert Broun, rector of Dunhefd, in the diocese of Salisbury, if found fit, the canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 60 marks, of Combe and Hornham in Salisbury, void and reserved to the pope by the death of John de Southam, sub-collector in England to the camera; notwithstanding that he holds the said church, value not exceeding 60 marks. Ibid. (f. 222.)	To the same. Mandate to collate and assign to Thomas Horstone alias Schappewyke, rector of Great Halyngbury in the diocese of London, if found fit, the canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 40 marks, of Kentisseton in London, void and reserved as in the preceding; notwithstanding that he holds the said church, value not exceeding 40 marks. Id. May. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 227.)	To the archdeacon of Cardigan in St. Davids. Mandate to collate and assign to John ap Rys ap Gruffuth, clerk, of the diocese of St. Davids, if found fit, the canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 40 marks, of Llanarth in Llandewybrevi, in the said diocese, void by the death of Kedywor ap Rys. Dignum [arbitramur].
11 Kal. June. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 228.)	To the bishop of Telese, the abbot of Kemmer [in the diocese of] Bangor, and the treasurer of St. Davids. Mandate to collate and assign to John Tegle alias ap David, rector of Daerweyn in the diocese of St. Asaph, the canonry and prebend, value not exceeing 16 marks, or Tegle in Abergwyle in the diocese of St. Davids, void by the death of John Gerveys; notwithstanding that he holds the said church, value not exceeding 20 marks, and that the pope has lately ordered provision to be made to him of a benefice with or without cure in the common or several gift of the bishops and canons and chapters of Bangor and St. Davids, by the obtaining of which benefice with cure he is bound to resign his said church. Vite etc.
1404. 10 Kal. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 249.)	To the bishop of Tuy, the abbot of Conwi in the diocese of St. Asaph and the archdeacon of Anglesey in Bangor. Mandate to collate and assign to John ap Gronw Goch, priest, perpetual portionary in the church of Kelynnokvawr in the diocese of Bangor, the canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 40 marks, of Nantmaur in Bangor, void by the death of Ithel ap Ropert; notwithstanding that he holds a perpetual benefice, called a portion, in the above church, value not exceeding 60 marks. Vite etc.
7 Id. May. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 283d.)	To William Hamond. Provision to him, a priest, of the canonry and prebend of Castelknok in Dublin, value not exceeding 50 marks, which became void at the apostolic see by the death there of Nicholas Wennale, and therefore reserved to Gregory XI, and which, by the death of that pope without having disposed thereof, remained reserved to Urban VI, who also died without disposing thereof, so that they are still reserved. Vite etc.
	Concurrent mandate to the bishops of Tuy and Killaloe, and the abbot of Baltinglass (de Vallesalutis) in the diocese of Leighlin. Vite etc.
