Mandate to collate and assign to Thomas Okeallaych, canon of Tuam—who is a subdeacon, and has had dispensation from the present pope as the son of a deacon and an unmarried woman related in the third degree of kindred to be promoted to all, even holy, orders and hold a benefice even with cure, as well as elective dignities, even episcopal or archiepiscopal, personatus
and offices—the archdeaconry of Tuam, a non-major dignity with cure, value not exceeding 15 marks, void and reserved to the apostolic see by reason that Thomas Macgillachalaygh, of Nongla, alias Okeaallaych, then as now perpetual vicar of Killehayryn in the same diocese, obtained it by authority of the ordinary, and held it therewith and still holds it, contrary to John XXII's constitution Execrabilis; notwithstanding that he holds a canonry and prebend of Tuam, value not exceeding 1 mark, and canonries of Clonfert and Elphin with expectation of prebends. To John de Southam, licentiate of civil law. Provision to him —who is a priest, and who lately on its voidance, as was believed, obtained and now holds the archdeaconry of Berks, under pretext of letters of king Richard—of the said archdeaconry, value not exceeding 150 marks, void by its resignation to the pope this day by Walter Cook, who has not had possession under the pope's provision to him thereof, as below. Upon the death of Andrew, cardinal priest of SS. Marcellinus and Peter, the pope, who had previously reserved the archdeaconry, made provision of it to Christopher, cardinal priest of St. Ciriac's, who without obtaining possession exchanged it with Walter Cook for the canonry and prebend of Warthill in York, provision of which had been made to Cook by papal authority on the death of Richard Carleton, and of which Cook had likewise not obtained possession, the resignations being made to the pope, who made provision of the archdeaconry to Cook. The present provision is made notwithstanding that Southam holds a canonry and prebend of Lincoln, value not exceeding 30 marks, and that the pope has lately ordered provision to be made to him of a canonry of Salisbury, with expectation of a prebend. To the priors of Monahincha (de Insula Vivencium) and Lochra in the diocese of Killaloe, and Eugene Omacnachayn, canon of Killaloe. Mandate to collate and assign to Donatus Oachaeghyn, clerk, of the said diocese, subdeacon, of noble birth, the archdeaconry of Killaloe, which has cure, value not exceeding 50 marks, and to remove Cornelius Odeayg, subdeacon, of Killaloe. Cornelius, after having obtained the tonsure without making mention of his illegitimacy as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, received papal dispensation to minister in his orders received and to be promoted to all, even holy, orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he held, without further dispensation, the rectory of Dissertmolacala together with, first that of Killnafearwugy, and afterwards that of Kilkaedy in the same diocese, the cure in which churches was exercised by perpetual vicars. He had subsequent dispensation from Pileus, bishop of Tusculum, then cardinal priest of St. Praxed's and papal nuncio in England, to hold one other benefice, even if in a cathedral church and even if an elective dignity, and to exchange his benefices as often as he thought good for similar or dissimilar benefices, under pretext of which dispensation he obtained canonries and prebends of Killaloe and Kilfenora. After this he became subdeacon under the original dispensation, and then, without making mention that he held such benefices and canonries and prebends, he received papal dispensation to hold all dignities, even elective, below principal, under which he obtained from the ordinary collation of the said archdeaconry void by the death of Cornelius Ikeaniedig, without getting possession of which he retained all his other benefices. Upon his being rehabilitated by papal letters, on condition of resigning the archdeaconry and his said benefices, the pope ordered the said archdeaconry and the rectory of Dissertmolacala, thus resigned, to be collated and assigned to him. Seeing that, as the recent petition of Donatus contained, Cornelius has not resigned his said archdeaconry and other benefices, the present mandate is issued; notwithstanding that the pope has recently ordered provision to be made anew to Donatus of the rectory of Kenelarga, in lay fee, of which he has possession, of the rectory of Birra, with cure, in the said diocese [above, Reg. LV. f. 15], of the canonry and prebend of Lochayn in Killaloe [below, f. 177], which he also holds, value altogether not exceeding 28 marks, and of a benefice with or without cure in the gift of the bishop, and has granted him dispensation to hold together Kenelarga, Birra, and such benefice with cure. He has hereby dispensation to hold for life together with Kenelarga and Birra, the said archdeaconry, upon obtaining which the said mandate of provision shall be null and void as far as regards a benefice with cure only.
