To Thomas, [bishop] elect of Killala (Aladen.). Provision to him, a canon of the monastery of St. Thomas the Martyr by Buttevant (iuxta Butoniam), O.S.A., in the diocese of Cloyne (Cluonen.), by both parents of noble birth, and a clerk, of the said church, provision of which, on its voidance by the death of Bernard extra curiam, during whose lifetime it had been specially reserved to the present pope, the pope made to Mulerus de Exonis, (fn. 2) who was at the apostolic see, but who has died at the said see without the letters of his provision having been drawn up, so that the said church is still void. Apostolatus officium. [Eubel, Hierarchia, has the wrong date, viz. 1471, Feb. 6, and refers to Garampi's Schede, where, however, the correct date of the provision is given, viz. ‘5 Id. 1469[–70]. 3 Non. Jan. (3 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 104d.) |
To the abbot of the monastery of SS. Peter and Paul, Armagh, and William Ocearuolan and Patrick Ocrenan, canons of Derry (Deren.). Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Nicholas Ohegeartaych, priest, of the diocese of Down (Dunen.), that Senequinus Okeyllin, abbot of the monastery of St. Mary alias St. Congal, Beannchor, O.S.A., in the said diocese, has committed perjury and dilapidation, been excommunicated for non-payment of his debts, and, being bound by such excommunication, has taken part in divine offices. The pope therefore hereby orders the above three, if the said Nicholas (who has made his profession of the third Order of St. Francis, called the Order of Penance, and desires to live with the convent of the said monastery under the regular habit, and who from fear of the said abbot cannot safely meet him in the city and diocese of Down) will accuse the said abbot before them, to summon the latter and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive the said abbot, and in that event to cause Nicholas to be received as a canon in the said monastery, give him the regular habit and receive his profession, and thereupon to make provision to him, if found fit, of the said monastery, value not exceeding 20 marks sterling. The pope hereby grants faculty for him to be blessed by any catholic bishop in communion with the apostolic see, and for such bishop to bless him; without prejudice to the bishop of Down, as ordinary of the said monastery.
