Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern description in Latin: 1470. An. 6. Pauli ii., and on a modern end-paper is Mgr. Wenzel's ‘An. vii. to. 2.’ A contemporary end-paper has in contemporary hands: (i) the description: Septimus de diversis formis anno sexto domini nostri domini Pauli pape ii.; (ii) the order ‘R(ecipe) Pau., P.’; (iii) the corresponding ‘Rubricatus per me Paulum’; and (iv) the notes: ‘Quesit(us) est, et non est, Petrus [Carli] episcopus Capru[li]en.’ and ‘Quesit(us) pro indulgencia.’ On the bottom edge of the volume is the usual contemporary description: Septimus de diversis [formis] anno …, etc., as above. There are ff. i.–cccxxxi. of text. The provision bulls of the above-mentioned Peter Carli, bishop of Caorle in North Italy, a suffragan see of Grado, occur in Reg. Lat. DCC, ff. 168r.–170d. The bull of provision of ‘Petrus electus Caprulien.’ is dated at St. Peter's, Rome, 1470, 6 Id. June (8 June) anno 6, and that of his consecration on the following 4 Id. June (10 June). Eubel, Hierarchia, ad loc., following Gams, gives 1470, June 10, as the date of his provision. In Reg. Lat. DCCIII., f. 185d, there is another letter concerning ‘Petrus electus Caprulien.,’ dated 1470, 6 Id. June (8 June), anno 6.
  • 2. On f. 150d, under date St. Peter's, Rome, 1470, 10 Kal. July (22 June), anno 6, is a dispensation on account of defect of age to Giles Piot, clerk, of the diocese of Amiens, he being in or about his twentieth year.
  • 3. que inibi [sc. in dicta ecclesia] dignitas non tamen maior post pontificalem principalis exist[it], et ad quam quis per ele[c]tionem non assumitur, cuique cura imminet animarum. The words ‘post pontificalem’ are cancelled, and overwritten ‘P(etru)s,’ and so evidently should also have been ‘maior.’
  • 4. exhibita nobis nuper pro parte dilecti filii Andree Caputii Rubei laici Magdeburgen. dioc. et dilecto filie in Christo Veronice eius uxoris coniugum petitio continebat. Andrew's surname is evidently latinized from some such German form as ‘Rothkaputze.’
  • 5. guardiani sive cameraru hospitalis Anglicorum Sancti Thome de Urbe.
  • 6. pro pretio decem et octo ducatorum, septuaginta duobus bologninis monete in eadem Urbe usualis pro quolibet ducato computatis.
  • 7. The address had ‘Johanni episcopo Urbinat.,’ but this is cancelled and over-written ‘Stephano archiepiscopo Mediolanen.’ In the margin is also the note: Cassat(o) Johanne episcopo Urbinat., et addit[o] Stephano archiepiscopo Mediolanen., de mandato reverendissimi domini Vicecancellarii.
