Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern description in Italian: ‘Pio ii. 1461. Anno 4. Lib. i.,’ and on the inside of the cover is Mgr. Wenzel's ‘Nella Rubricella An. 3. to. 14: ‘è dellan. 4o,’ which in fact it is. There is no contemporary flyleaf, but the hardly legible contemporary description occurs as usual on the bottom edge of the volume: ‘Primus de provisionibus [prelatorum] et de regularibus anno iiii. domini nostri domini Pii pape ii.' There are i–cccxv. ff. of text.
  • 2. There is no rubric at the top of f. i.
  • 3. The text was ‘licentiati in theologia capellani nostri.’ The words ‘capellani nostri’ are cancelled and over–written O[ctavianu]s (i.e.Octavianus Pontanus), and in the margin is: Cassatum de mandato domini vicecancellarii, O. Pontanus.
  • 4. There is no letter to the king of England.
  • 8. ‘eciam’ is added in the margin and subscribed ‘H.’ i.e. H. Folani.
  • 9. The date is unfinished, thus: Dutum Rome apud sanctum Petrum anno incarnationis dominice millesimo quadringentesimo sexagesimo. There is not therefore the usual subscription after the date, nor is there the usual initial letter in the margin at the beginning.
