De Regularibus.
1460[–1]. 6 Kal. Feb. (27 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 93.) (fn. 2) |
To the prior of St. Mary, Rosscoman, in the diocese of Elphin, Donald Oconair, a canon of Elphin and the official of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Bernard Occallaig, priest, a canon of the Augustinian monastery of St. Mary, Rosscoman, in the diocese of Elphin, that Charles Macgillariuaug (sic), perpetual vicar of the parish church of Athlaig Managayn in the diocese of Elphin, has committed simony, divided the fruits and tithes of the vicarage, without any authority of a superior, between himself and another, dilapidated etc. its goods, and is greatly defamed in those parts of these and divers other crimes [not here expressed]) if and after Bernard (who on account of the slenderness of the fruits of the said monastery cannot be conveniently maintained therein, but is obliged to seek his livelihood in other wise, and who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of a priest professed of the said order and an unmarried woman, both nobles, to be promoted to all even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he had himself so promoted) accuses Charles, who is a priest, before the above three, to summon Charles and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Charles, and in that event to collate and assign the vicarage, wont to be held by secular clerks, value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to Bernard; whether it be then void by such deprivation, or be still void by the death of David Ycatham or Dermit Macgillaruaid, or by the resignation of the said Charles, David and Dermit, or be void in any other way. Religionis zelus. vite etc. (P. and G. Gonne. | P. Gratis pro deo. Quinto Kal Aprilis Anno Tertio. de Varris.) [4 pp.] |

De Beneficiis Vacantibus.
1460[–1]. 5 Non. March.) (3 March.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 195d.) |
To the archdeacon of Kilmacduagh (Duacen.), and John Macgillavanach and John Odugella, canons of the same. Mandate to collate and assign to Robert Elys, (fn. 3) clerk, of the diocese of Clonfert, who is in or about his twenty-third year, and is a native of Lothricach (recte Lochrieach) in the said diocese, the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of that place, value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, void by the death of William Omurey, although Thady Ohriahayn, (fn. 4) an Augustinian canon of St. Mary's de Portupuro [Clonfert] in the said diocese, who is to be summoned and removed, has unduly detained it under pretext of certain letters of the present pope, which are surreptitious, because it is expressed in them that the vicarage was wont to be governed by canons of the said monastery, whereas it has been wont to be governed by secular clerks only, especially for the past 40 years, from fear of whose power and of other adversaries Robert cannot safely meet Thady in the city or diocese of Clonfert; whether it be void as stated, or by the death of Rory (Rorici) Yegni, or by the resignation of the said William or Rory or Malachy Yhurayn, a canon of the said monastery, or be void in any other way, and notwithstanding that provision was lately made to him by papal authority of a canonry of Clonfert and the prebend of Drothde therein, value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, of which he is not in possession, but is litigating about them in Ireland (in partibus). He is hereby dispensed to receive and retain the vicarage, notwithstanding the said defect [of age] etc.Vite etc. (P. and A. de Cortesiis. | P. xv. Residuum gratis pro deo. Sextodecimo Kal. Aprilis Anno Tertio. de Varris.) [3 pp.] |

1460[–1]. 3 Non. March. (5 March.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 225d.) |
To the prior of Acharaym Omane, in the diocese of Clonfert, and the dean and the archdeacon of Clonfert. Mandate as below. The perpetual vicarage of Dundrage in the diocese of Clonfert being void by the death at the apostolic see of Thady Obruadair, and therefore reserved to the pope; and the pope having learned that the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Drummikyhit in the same diocese has been so long void (fn. 5) that its collation has by the Lateran statutes lapsed to the apostolic see; and Cornelius Macuayn, priest, of the said diocese, alleging that Nemeas Ohely, priest, of the said diocese has unduly detained for about four years, as he still does, the said vicarage of Dundrage, under pretext of a collation made to him by the ordinary after the said reservation, the pope hereby orders the above three to summon Nemeas and others concerned, and to collate and assign the said vicarages of Dundrage and Drummikyhit, value not exceeding 4 and 1 marks sterling respectively, to Cornelius, the said Nemeas being removed. The pope further dispenses Cornelius, who alleges that the said vicarages are so near that they can be served by one man, and that their united fruits etc. do not exceed 24 gold florins of the Camera, and that the said vicarage of Drummikyhit remains, on account of the slenderness of its fruits, without a vicar, to receive them and retain them together for life. Vite etc. (O. and A. de Cortesiis. | O.xii. Residuum gratis pro deo. Quinto Kal. Aprilis Anno Tertio. Pontanus.) [4½ pp.] |
