Footnotes

  • 2. On the back of the volume is the usual modern red leather label, with: ’Pn ii. Of. T. iii.,’ and on the bottom edge of the volume is the upper half only of the single line contemporary description, apparently: ‘iii. Officiorum d. n. Pii.’ The volume, which is very thin, containing only two flyleaves, two ff. of Rubricelle and ff. i. to xxv. + 26 + 27 of text, and four blank leaves at the end, has thus been probably separated from a thicker volume. The Rubricelle are headed: ‘Rubricelle libri tercii bullarum Officiorum sanctissimi in Christo patris et domini Pii pape ii, incepti de anno sexto.’ and end: ‘Finis presentis libri. Deo gratias.’ They embrace only the contents of the first xxiiii. ff., xxiiiidall belonging to the sixth year, so that the four additional letters on ff. xxiiiid.-27d., belonging to the 6th, 2nd, and 3rd year, were evidently registered after the Rubricelle were made. This is doubtless to be connected with a note at the bottom of f. 26d., viz.: ‘Nota quod suprascripte bulle fuerunt portate ex plumbo ad cameram et registrate in hoc libro primum die xvia. mensis Septembris mcccclxxiii, pontificatus domini Sixti pape quarti anno tertio, Gaspar Blondus.’
