To John Walsyng[h]am, a Benedictine monk of St. Edmunds Bury in the diocese of Norwich. Dispensation, as below. His recent petition contained that he contracted marriage per verba de presenti with a certain woman, without the presence of witnesses, that, without having been known by him, she was publicly married to another, and that, inasmuch as he could not prove the marriage which he had thus contracted, he rashly had himself promoted to all holy orders and ministered therein for about seven years, after which he entered the said monastery, made his profession therein, and has similarly ministered in holy orders for about four years. (fn. 2) Seeing that, as the said petition added, although the said contract was and is secret, he fears that on account of the Extravagant beginning ‘Antique concertationi’ he cannot without papal dispensation remain in the said monastery and order and minister in the said orders, but is bound to profess some mendicant order, the pope hereby dispenses him to remain in the said order of St. Benedict, and minister in his orders or migrate to a like or a stricter order, mendicant or non-mendicant, and receive and retain any benefices wont to be governed etc. by the religious of such orders.
