Vatican Regesta. Vol. CCCCLXXIV. (fn. 1)

De Curia.

1 Pius II.

1458.
7 Kal. Dec.
(25 Nov.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 10d.)
To William Sheffeld, rector of Hoggesthorpe in the diocese of Lincoln. Dispensation, as below. The pope has learned that on the voidance of the said church [value not expressed] the lay patron [not named] presented him, then in his twentyfirst year, and having only the tonsure, to John bishop of Lincoln, who instituted him, under pretext of which he obtained it and detained it for some time without being promoted meanwhile to any holy order, and still detains it. The pope now motu proprio rehabilitates him, who is of noble birth, grants that the said presentation and institution and their consequences hold good, as if at the time thereof he had been sufficiently dispensed to receive and retain the said church notwithstanding the said defect of age, and dispenses him, even if he be not yet of lawful age, to retain the same and to receive and retain with it for life any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if another parish church or its perpetual vicarage or, without the said church, any two benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches or perpetual vicarages or dignities etc., or such mixed, and resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and moreover not to be bound, till he attains his twentyfifth year, to be promoted to any holy orders on account of the said church or the said other benefices. Nobilitas generis, vite etc. (G. Lollius. | xxxxii. B. de Brendis. Ja. Bouron. D. de Piscia.) [In the margin: Novembris. 2 pp.]

2 Pius II.

(12 Nov.)
Mantua.
(f. 60d.)
Union and appropriation, at the recent petition of James king of Scots and Alexander Hume, baron and knight, lord of Hume, founder and patron of the church of St. Mary in the town of Dunglas in the diocese of St. Andrews, and of William Park, provost of the same (containing that the fruits etc. of the provostship, a principal dignity, are so slight that they do not exceed 5l. sterling a year, with which he and the provost for the time being cannot be maintained; and that the perpetual vicarage of Edrame in the same diocese is void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the resignation to the pope of John Hume, made by his proctor Thomas Zhoung, priest, of the said diocese) of the said vicarage, value likewise not exceeding 5l. sterling, to the said provostship, so that the said William, or the provost for the time being, may take possession thereof etc., without requiring licence of the diocesan or any other, etc. Ad perp. rei mem. Ad ea per que. (G. Lollius. | xxxx. B. de Brendis. Ja. Bouron. Constantinus.) [In the margin: Octobris. 3 pp. Theiner, op. cit., pp. 422–423, No. 798, from ‘Reg. Tom. VII. fol. 60,’ i.e. the present Register, omitting the Non obstantibus and following clauses.]
