Mandate to collate and assign to John Ferne, clerk, of the diocese of Ross, who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of a clerk and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, the perpetual vicarage of St. John Baptist's, Foreti, in the said diocese, value not exceeding 9l. sterling, void by the death without the Roman court of Alexander de Dynguayl. Reservation to the pope's gift, for collation to him, of a canonry of Cloyne (Clonen.) and the prebend, which has cure of souls exercised by a perpetual vicar, of Kylmodonoc, value not exceeding 10 marks sterling, shortly to become void by the promotion made by the pope [above, Reg. Lat., DXXV, f. 320], and by the consecration to be administered to him, of John elect of Ferns. Litterarum etc.

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern Italian description: ‘Calisto III. 1457, Anno 3. Lib. 2.’ The contemporary flyleaf, which had the usual description, has disappeared, but on the bottom edge is the hardly legible contemporary description: ‘Secundus de beneficiis et de prebendis vacantibus anno tertio domini nostri domini Calisti pape iii.’ and f. I. is headed ‘de beneficiis vancantibus [sic] anno tertio.’ There are ff. i–cccxxii. of text.
