De Curia.

5 Nicholas V.

1451[-2].
6 Kal. Feb.
(27 Jan.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 1 bis)
To John Wynton, an Augustinian canon of St. Osyth's in the diocese of London. Decree, etc., as below. His recent petition contained that formerly, after he had obtained licence from the abbot of the said monastery to receive any benefice, he obtained, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, the parish church of Claxton, laudably ruled it for twelve years, and resigning it, obtained the perpetual vicarage of Rykmersworht (fn. 2), in the diocese of Lincoln, collated to him by John, abbot of St. Albans, its collation belonging to the abbot of St. Albans from of old, and is now in possession, wearing the regular habit of St. Osyth's under an honest priestly dress of a dark colour (fn. 3). The pope hereby decrees that the collation and provision made to him of the said vicarage holds good, and dispenses him to hold it for life, and to resign it and any other benefice with cure wont to be governed by secular clerks which he may obtain, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and to continue to wear the said habit as above. Religionis zelus, vite etc. (Poggius. | xxx. Ja. de Viterbio. Constantinus.) [In the margin: Fe(bruarii).]

Ibid.
(f. 301d.)
To the abbot of St. Mary's, Glastonbury, in the diocese of Bath and Wells. Faculty to confer the office of notary public on John Toukar, a married layman, of the diocese of Bath and Wells, who is married to Joan, relict of Richard Norys, if he have completed his twenty-fifth year, and be found fit after examination, with the form of oath appended; with indult for the said John to act as a notary in spiritual causes, notwithstanding the constitutions of Canterbury [see Lyndwood, Provinciale, lib. III, tit. 3, cap. 2 (Oxford, 1679, pp. 129–130)] forbidding married clerks or bigamists to do so. Ne contractuum. (Poggius. | xx. F. de Laude. S. de Spada.) [In the margin: De(cembris). 1½ pp.]
