Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern description: 'Eugenio IV. 1446. Anno 16. Lib. 1.' A flyleaf has, in contemporary hands: 'Rubricatus est 1447, viii Julii,' 'Primus de beneficiis vacantibus anno xvio. domini nostri Eugenii pape iiii.,' 'Solui pro isto ligatore (?) solidos (?) ...,' and ' R(ecipe) Henrice.' The bottom edge of the volume has the usual contemporary description, only partly legible: 'Primus de beneficiis ...' as above.
  • 2. The text calls him 'Pilpus Okeyt.' He is presumably the 'Donatus Okeyt' of Cal. Latt. viii. p. 98.
  • 3. Also written 'Balintobairbrida.'
  • 4. On f. 101d is the following, cancelled with strokes, without marginal note: 'Eugenius etc. dilecto filio Odoni Oconollan clerico Ardmachane diocesis, salutem etc. In the left margin is 'An.' and in the right margin 'A. de Cortesiis, Nicasius,' as usual. The whole of f. 102r and almost the whole of f. 102v has been left blank for the rest of the letter, which was rightly left unfinished, as (being a reservation of a benefice in the gift of certain patrons) it would have been cancelled by the corrector with the usual 'Cassata quia indecenter et alibi (viz. under 'De beneficiis vacaturis') decenter registrata.'
