1430[–1] (fn. 3) 5 Id. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 4d.)	To David de Hamylton, dean of Aberdeen, S.T.B. Dispensation as below. Lately he, holding the parish church of Cummok in the diocese of Glasgow, and having had provision ordered by papal authority to be made to him of the deanery of Glasgow, a major dignity with cure, was dispensed by the said authority to hold for life them, or the deanery and any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange [Cal. Lett. VII, p. 258]. Afterwards, provision of the parish church of Kirkkiner in the diocese of Whiteherne having been ordered by the same authority to be made to him [ibid, p. 425], he was dispensed by the said authority to hold the said deanery and two churches together for five years, and to resign meanwhile Kirkkiner, simply or for exchange, and hold in its stead another incompatible benefice, with the condition of resigning, after the lapse of the said five years, Cummok [ibid]. Subsequently Martin V made provision to him of the deanery of Aberdeen, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 60l. sterling, previously reserved, requiring him upon obtaining it to resign, if he won it, that of Glasgow, about which he was litigating, or give up his suit and all right, as is contained in letters of the present pope, Martin V having died before his letters of provision were drawn up [Cal. Lett. VIII, pp. 412, 413]. The pope hereby dispenses him (who is also a bachelor of canon law and M.A., is a kinsman of several barons of Scotland, and holds the said churches of Cummok and Kirkkiner, whose value does not exceed 120l. sterling, the chapel without cure of St. Thomas the Martyr without the walls of Glasgow and a canonry of Brechin and the prebend called the vicarage, value not exceeding 8l. and 20l. respectively, and to whom provision was lately made by the said authority of a canonry of Glasgow and the prebend called Glasgow Primo and of the hospital of Rothfen in the diocese of Aberdeen, wont to be assigned to secular clerks as a perpetual benefice, value not exceeding 60l. and 40l. respectively, and who is still litigating about the said deanery of Glasgow, value not exceeding 80l.) to hold the said deanery of Aberdeen and churches of Cummok and Kirkkiner together for life, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and hold instead for life other three incompatible benefices. Decree that these presents shall suffice as proof of the dispensation granted to him, of great noble race, by Martin V on 13 Kal. Sept. anno 9 [1426] to hold for life, besides Walsokne, value not exceeding 100 marks sterling, any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased; the said pope's letters not having been drawn up before his death. May anno 13 [1430] to visit, as long as he should hold it, his said archdeaconry by deputy, whilst studying at an university or when hindered by illness or other lawful cause, and to receive the procurations in money. Oct. anno 10 [1427] to visit for life his said archdeaconry and any other archdeaconry which he might hold in future, and to receive the procurations in money. Racioni etc.

Ibid. (f. 33.)	To Edmund Awsteyn, priest, of the diocese of Kildare, B.C.L. A like decree, and for the same reason, in regard to (i) the rehabilitation granted to him by Martin V on 13 Kal. Oct. anno 13 [1430], he having (after being dispensed by papal authority, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure) obtained, without any other dispensation on account of the said defect, by collation of the ordinary, a canonry and prebend of Kildare, which he resigned to the said pope; (ii) the same pope's dispensation, granted to him at the same time, to hold any mutually compatible benefices, with or without cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased. 1432. 14 Kal. Aug. St. Peter's, Rome, (f. 56.)	To Griffin, bishop of Ross. Grant as below. Martin V, upon bishop Griffin setting forth in his presence that he had no hope of soon obtaining possession of his said church, reserved to the papal gift, to be held by Griffin in commendam two, three or four benefices with or without cure, secular or regular, even if priories, of any patronage, in the province of Reims or Tours; after which, in the cause begun against bishop Griffin by William Cherpin, then a monk of the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Jacut in the diocese of Dol, and long ventilated before a papal auditor, about the Benedictine priory of Locminé (de Locomonachorum) in the diocese of Vannes, which Griffin had obtained in commendam in virtue of the said letters, the said William won a definitive sentence by which the said priory was adjudged to him, and perpetual silence imposed on bishop Griffin, who was absent from the Roman court and undefended, from which sentence, as soon as he heard of it, he appealed to the apostolic see, although after ten days from its promulgation. Seeing that bishop Griffin has this day, being in possession of the said priory, resigned to the pope all right in or to it by his proctor John Colini, rector of Orgères (de Orgeriis) in the diocese of Rennes, and that the pope has accepted the resignation and has, by other letters, extinguished the said suit, if pending by reason of the said appeal, the pope hereby grants to him, until he obtains possession of the said or other see, a yearly pension of 50 gold crowns on the fruits etc. of the said priory, to be paid, under stated penalties, by the said William, who has consented, and by his successors. Faculty to him, who is also M.A., to hear the confessions of all the parishioners of the said and of his future parish churches or perpetual vicarages, and to grant absolution, except in cases reserved to the apostolic see, enjoining penance. Dispensation to him, who is a priest and M.A. and B.C.L., to hold for life with the said treasurership, which is a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 200 marks sterling, any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if it be a parish church etc., and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he wishes; provided that he do not hold two parish churches, etc. Litterarum etc. (An. and pro P. de Montella, M. Dispensation to hold for life with Ingoldesby, value not exceeding 20l. sterling, any other benefice, or without it any two benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches etc., and to resign etc. as in the preceding. 3 Non. Aug. [Florence. (fn. 8) (f. 217d.)	To William Symond, rector of Staunton Harecourt in the diocese of Lincoln. Dispensation as below. Martin V (i) dispensed him on 4 Kal. Sept. anno 6 [1423, in Cal. Lett. VII, p. 280] to hold for five years with the parish church of Mursley in the diocese of Lincoln any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if another parish church etc., and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, in virtue of which he obtained the parish church of Bukynhill in the said diocese; (ii) prolonged the said five years by other seven [ibid, p. 501], in virtue of which he, having successively resigned Mursley and Bukynhill, obtained and is now holding Staunton Harecourt and Stanlake in the said diocese, value not exceeding 40 and 20 marks respectively, and hardly a mile apart. The pope hereby prolongs for him, who is of noble birth and is a completed (formatus) bachelor of canon law, and is still within the said seven years, that term to the term of his life, notwithstanding the above ordinance, etc. Nobilitas generis, litterarum etc. (An. and Ja. de Ugolinis. \| An. l. de Adria.)
19 Kal. Jan. Florence. (f. 228.)	Relaxation, to be valid in perpetuity, at the petition of king Henry and Humphrey, duke of Gloucester, of seven years and seven quarantines of enjoined penance to penitents who on the Assumption and on Lœtare Sunday visit and give alms for the fabric and conservation of the chapel of St. Mary the Virgin in the parish church of Neweport in the diocese of Lichfield, which Thomas Draper, donsel, a servitor of the said duke, has caused to be founded and in great part built, and has endowed for a priest to say mass and other divine offices for ever, for the welfare of the living and the souls of all faithful departed; the said donsel proposing not only, as far as his means allow, to complete the building and provide the needful books, vestments and ornaments, but also to increase the said endowment for one other like priest.
