Mandate to summon to some place in the dioceses of London or Lincoln, suspected by neither party, those concerned in the cause touching the marriage of John, earl of Hereford, and Margaret Basset. After consummation of the marriage, it came to the knowledge of the earl that he and Margaret were related in the fourth degree, whereupon petition was made to the pope, Thomas de Mandeville, knight, Alice de Beauchamp, and other kinsfolk of Margaret, and a papal mandate was issued to the bishop of Lichfield and Coventry, who refused to act. The pope now orders a full report to be made to him, and the following witnesses to be cited: Bertrand de Verduyn, clerk; Ralph Basset, Henry de Grey, Roger de Grey, John de Verduyn, Robert de Lylle, William de Ruysshton, Thomas de Gobioun, Oliver de Bohun, Thomas de Mandeville, Thomas de Aledone, knights; Joan, wife of the said Ralph; Joan de Verduyn, Alice de Beauchamp, Margaret de Lylle, Elizabeth Peverel, Alice de Mungomery, Petronilla de Nevile, Sibyl de Bibbesworth, and Hawisia de Ferrers.

Provision touching the canonry of Wilton and prebend of Chalke, about which there has been a suit between the late Robert de Trumpeflete and John de Wodeforde. Sentence having been given in favour of Robert, John appealed to the pope; meanwhile Robert died, and John Lambok now succeeds to his right in the said canonry and prebend; notwithstanding that he is rector of Elkesley, in the diocese of York, about which there is a suit, and in which ordinance has been made of a perpetual vicarage, and is also warden of the house of St. John Baptist, Nottingham.

Repeated mandate to proceed to carry out the orders issued in the cause between Francis Gaitani and Walter de Reddewinde touching the treasurership of York, tried in the Roman court, where sentence was given against Walter, and confirmed on appeal. Walter died, and Francis married, whereupon the treasurership was given to Peter, cardinal of St. Stephen's on the Cælian, William de la Mara being removed therefrom. William, however, was contumacious, and in the suit between him and cardinal Peter order for sequestration was made to John, then bishop of Winchester, who was unable to act alone; the present mandate is therefore issued.
