June 1. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 1064. Hieronimo Lippomano, Venetian Ambassador in Constantinople, to the Doge and Senate.
The Ambassadors of France and England are still at discord. The English Ambassador is showing letters either intercepted or copied by that Frenchman who was copying clerk to the Embassy of France.

June 18. Copy of Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 1065. Giovanni Dolfin, Venetian Ambassador in Germany, to the Doge and Senate.
The English are said to be out with seventy ships and nine thousand men. Don Antonio is on board, and it is supposed that they are destined for the extreme south of Portugal to co-operate with the Moors and the Turkish fleet.

June 27. Minutes of the Senate, Venetian Archives. 1066. To the Queen of England.
We are well aware of the good-will which your Majesty bears towards us, and more especially have we made proof thereof by the courteous words which your Secretary used to our Secretary in Danzig.
We have commissioned our beloved Bartolommeo Corsini to purchase grain in England; we accordingly beg that your Majesty will not only sanction the export of thirty thousand stara (fn. 1) of grain, but will also extend to Corsini your gracious favour in all that may concern the operation.

June 26. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 1067. Lorenzo Bernardo, Venetian Ambassador in Constantinople, to the Doge and Senate.
If the King of Spain sends to effect a truce, I pointed out that it would be against Turkish interests to give him any assistance, for his policy was to subdue England and France, then to destroy Venice, and then to make himself master of the whole world.

June 27. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 1068. Lorenzo Bernardo, Venetian Ambassador in Constantinople, to the Doge and Senate.
M. de la Charità has arrived here, sent by M. de la Valette to obtain the liberation of Ottavio Avogadro, prisoner in Algiers.
He is working through the English Ambassador, in whose house he is living.

June 30. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 1069. Giovanni Mocenigo, Venetian Ambassador in France, to the Doge and Senate.
Many barrels of powder have been sent to the King from England, where six thousand troops are waiting all ready to cross over to France at his Majesty's command.

The King is forced against his will to avail himself of foreign arms, and so he makes use of the support which he receives from Germany and England.
