The Lord Privy Seal sat Speaker this Day.
Bill to grant an Aid to the King.
The Lord Chamberlain reported, "That the Committee of the whole House have considered of the Bill for granting to the King's Majesty the Royal Aid, wherein they have thought fit to make some Alterations, and have added a Proviso for saving of their Lordships ancient Rights and Privileges, which are offered to the Consideration of this House."
The said Alterations and Proviso, being read Twice, were Agreed to.
Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for granting a Royal Aid to the King's Majesty, of Twenty-four Hundred Threescore and Seventeen Thousand and Five Hundred Pounds, to be raised, levied, and paid, in the Space of Three Years."
The Question being put, "Whether this Bill shall pass, with the Alterations and Proviso now read ?"
It was Resolved in the Affirmative.
Message to H. C. with it.
A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir William Childe and Mr. Cole:
To return the Bill for granting a Royal Aid to the King's Majesty, wherein the Lords have made some Alterations, and added a Proviso, and desire the Concurrence of the House of Commons therein.
E. of Berks Privilege, against Depremont, for scandalous Words.
The Earl of Pembrooke reported, "That the Committee of Privileges have examined the Business referred to them from this House concerning the Earl of Berks; and their Lordships find it to consist of Matter of Conspiracy, and Matter of Scandal. The Scandal hath been proved by the Testimony of Two Witnesses upon Oath, that Depremont, a French Merchant, did say, That the Earl of Berks had received stolen Goods of his. Whereupon the Opinion of the Committee is, That the said Depremont deserves to be sent for, to appear before this House, as a Delinquent."
Hereupon it is ORDERED, That the same Witnesses shall be summoned to attend this House on Thursday Morning next, to testify to this House the same Evidence which they gave before the Committee in Matter of Fact.
ORDERED, That Mr. Justice Windham have Notice to assist the Lords Committees for Petitions this Afternoon.
Deeping Fen Bill.
ORDERED, That the Committee for the Bill concerning Deeping Fenn do meet on Saturday next, in the Afternoon.
