The abbot and convent of Selby. Signification that at the first foundation of their monastery their woods and preserves with wild beasts assigned to them were contiguous to those of the archbishop of York, the earl of Warrenne, and the lord of Mowbray, so that the religious and those of their servants appointed to take game were illtreated by the said temporal lords and many were killed, and the game driven off, so that dissensions arose, and their woods and preserves will be rendered useless to them unless the pope assists the abbot and monks in restraining these conflicts. They therefore pray for an indult that the abbot with three or four monks, or three monks with the abbot's licence, may be able to be present when the game is taken; the constitution “Ne in agro dominico,” and those of pope Benedict and others, notwithstanding.

Signification that he, with consent of Wulfstan, bishop, and the chapter of Worcester, converted the rectory and rector of Tormarton into a wardenship and warden, endowing them, with the king's consent, with two carucates of plough land, and a messuage or manse in the said town, so that there should be the warden, four chaplains, a deacon, a sub-deacon, and three choristers in the said church, with stipends and duties assigned to them, and that afterwards he gave the patronage of Acton to the said warden, and with the bishop's and chapter's consent appropriated it to the same.
