Sir Henry Furnese is called in and presents a proposal for remitting 600,000 Crowns to Spain for the service of the King of Spain and [for the service] of the 6000 men of his [the said King's] own Troops viz. to give his [Furnese's] own bills on Lisbon immediately and to take the value of 400,000 Crowns in tallies on Malt anno1707 and the remainder in money: the exchange to be at 54 pence per Crown and the bills to be drawn for 150,000 at sight; 150,000 at one month; 100,000 at 2 months; 100,000 at 3 months and 100,000 at 4 months. |

The Lord Treasurer agrees thereto, amounting in sterling to 135,000l. and directs the same to be issued to Mr. Brydges upon the order in his name, to wit 90,000l. in orders of loan on Malt anno1707 and 45,000l. in money out of funds anno1707. |

Mr. St. John's letter of January 8 is read relating to the augmenting the four Companies of Invalids to 100 men in each Company the better to enable them to do duty. My Lord Treasurer approves thereof and desires Mr. St. John to prepare an Establishment for them accordingly. |

He prays to renew his agreement for remitting the money necessary for her Majesty's Forces in the Low Countries for 6 months from the expiration of his former contract which determines the 13th inst. Accordingly my Lord agrees that he shall be allowed 12s. per 100l. for risk of bills, commission, brokerage and other charges relating to the remittances which he shall make to Amsterdam or Antwerp for the service of the Forces between the 13th inst. and Aug. 13 next, upon the foot of his last contract. Sir Thomas Littleton, the Treasurer of the Navy, represents to my Lord the pressing occasions for money for paying the ships which are under sailing orders and for satisfying bills of exchange already due. My Lord orders that Sir Thomas may dispose of 50,000l. of the tallies and orders in his hands on the Land Tax anno 1707 at an interest [discount] of 5 per cent. per an., the interest to commence from the respective times of receiving the money. The intermediate interest from the date of the orders [to the time of their pledging or disposal] is to be saved to the public. Of the said sum 45,000l. is to be applied to wages of seamen and 5000l. to bills of exchange. Ibid., p. 39. |

My Lord Treasurer approves the two letters [of direction] of this [day's] date for 50,000l. for the Navy and 9950l. 13s. 7¾d. on Mr. How's memorial. |

[My Lord orders that] the first two articles in Mr. Brydges' memorial of the 17th inst. amounting to 90,476l. 3s. 3½d. as below, for the Forces in Spain or Portugal, be issued out of loans on Land Tax or on [Malt anno 1707] as those loans shall come in. |

The Attorney General is to be here next Monday morning and to bring with him the several deeds relating to the purchase of Cotton House. |

Sir Theodore Janssen is called in and presents his memorial for remitting 25,000l. to Turin viz. at 60 days' date at 58 pence per crown of 82 sols each, money of Piedmont: payment for same to be made in Exchequer Bills when they are made out. |

My Lord Treasurer agrees thereto and Sir Theodore promises to give his bills to Mr. Brydges for the same so as to be sent away by this night's post. |

Write to Mr. Lister and the rest of the Commissioners for stating the accounts of the Army, Transports and Prizes that my Lord has read their report on the petition of the Company for Hollow Sword Blades relating to some deb[entures] lost at sea and that “my Lord has no objection to their [the said Commissioners] taking [a letter of indemnity under] the common seal of the said Company for security as they propose.” |

[My Lord Treasurer is informed of the] resolution of the Bank of 27 Feb. inst. that they will advance 50,000l. at 5 per cent. on tallies struck to [or in the name of] Sir Thomas Littleton upon the tenth 4s. Aid [to rank] next after the tallies on which the like sum was advanced the 20th inst., upon [the said Littleton] assigning the said tallies to the Bank and on Sir Thomas's note to repay the money with interest and to take up the tallies in two months if desired.
