April 1 Petition of Wm. Freke, Esq. Peter Cox, gent. and Walter Kinneir, surgeon, sureties for John Shermer, Receiver General of Land Tax, 1725, for Berks, who absconded. Directing the issue to Thomas Cremer sums not exceeding 30,000l. by way of imprest and upon account to be applied to the discharge of all payments dischargeable by the Cofferer of the Household till the present vacancy of the said office of Cofferer be supplied by the nomination of some person to succeed Henry Earl of Lincoln, late Cofferer, deceased.

April 10 Royal sign manual [directed to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland]. Authorising the issue of a warrant to the Receivers General and Paymasters of His Majesty's Revenue in Ireland for paying to the principal officers of the Hoard of Ordnance, or their assignees, 1,145l. 13s.d. out of the revenue at large, to enable them to discharge the like sum due to Nicholas Grueber for 300 barrels of gunpowder by him made and delivered into the storehouses in Ireland there, to make good the last year's consumption. Scrope to Attorney General Transmitting for consideration the report from the Salt Commissioners on Sir Richard Lane's memorial, praying that the bonds by him given for exportation of salt may be discharged by discounting his debentures and waste certificates value for value. April 10 Warrant from the Lords of the Treasury to the King's Remembrancer. For stay of process, on a petition of Sir Thomas Read on behalf of himself and others, sureties for Josiah Diston, Esq. receiver general of land tax and house duties, Middlesex, anno 1724–5. April 12 [Petition of] Deborah Reeves To be restored to His Majesty's bounty of 15l. at Christmas in consideration of the murder of her son in the service of the Customs. Their Lordships to be put in mind of her case next Christmas. Register of Papers VI. 133.

For the issue of orders and directions for the lauding and delivery, duty free, of a set of furniture and accoutrements provided by Sir Robert Rich for his regiment in Ireland. April 29 Warrant from the Lords of the Treasury to the Commissioners of the Customs in Scotland. Authorising them to issue their deputation to James Sutherland to be land surveyor at the port of Inverness at the established salary of 50l. per annum, vice David Forbes to be superseded for being in two strict intimacy with the merchants.

May 7 Report of A. Cracherode to the Lords of the Treasury on Henry Brown's petition to the same. In Easter term, 13 George I., petitioner outlawed Henry Glover, senior, coach-maker, of London, for a debt of 19l. 16s. The sheriffs seized and sold goods to the value of 58l. Petitioner's debt and costs of prosecution came to near that amount. The truth hereof is warranted by certificate of Thomas Eyre, one of the clerks of His. Majesty's Remembrancer of the Court of Exchequer. Payments by the sheriffs have reduced the 58l. to 34l. 10s. Advises authorising the Attorney General to consent to an order of the Exchequer for payment of same by the sheriffs. 2½ pages.

June 18 Warrant from the Lords of the Treasury to Auditor Thos. Jett. Authorising the discharge of John Locke, Esq. and his sisters Alice, Jane, and Eliz. Locke, from the sum of 201l. 0s. 7d. due from them to the Crown on account of rent and nomine pœnæ as below.
Appending.—Report from Jett to the Lords of the Treasury, of date 1728–9, February 13, on the Lockes' petition. Charles I., by letters patent of 1631, August 12, demised the land in question to Thos. Hooker for 80 years from 1648, Lady Day, at 13s. 4d. per annum rent. Charles II. granted same for further 20 years to John Harvey, Esq. and Sir John Coell. Petitioners were entitled to premises. The letters patent were enrolled 1727, August 22, at which time the arrears of rent, 13s. 4d. for 79 years, came to 52l. 13s. 4d. and the fine (nomine pœnæ)of 5s. per month for the same time, came to 201l. 0s. 7d. Petitioners have paid arrears, but were entirely ignorant of the non-enrolment of the letters patent and of the penalties therein contained.

Authoring the release from the Fleet of Joseph Palmer, a prisoner for two years and upwards for being concerned in the running of coffee, he having made discoveries of his employers therein, and the minister and churchwardens of Weeley having certified that he has a numerous family in very mean circumstances.

- - - A short abstract of Hugh Monro's case, son of Colonel Henry Monro, who raised a company at his own expense in 1688, which served at the siege of Londonderry, and had upwards of 20,000l. due to him and it. The Lords Justices of Ireland recommended the son for military employment, which has not been granted. In 1729, June 26, he petitioned for some provision in the Customs, which His Majesty granted.
