The Surveyor General [of Crown Lands], the Surveyor General of Woods, the Surveyor of the Works and the Paymaster of the Works are called in. My Lord Halifax opens the King's intentions in the Orders which his Majesty has signed in relation to the expense in the Office of Works, and then directs the same to be read to the several officers thereby appointed to be the Board of Works. |

Notice [by advertisement in the Gazette &c.] to be given of a six months’ payment to the Chest at Chatham [for the six months] ended at Lady day 1714: [the said payment] to be on the 10th June next. |

Mr. Beranger is called in. My Lord acquaints him that it would be for his Majesty's service if he could advance a sum of 20,000l. to be paid out of the produce of the tin [which] he is now under contract to sell in Holland &c. He says he is willing to do what he can for his Majesty's service; that he will advance 10,000l. forthwith and the other 10,000l. in a month's time or less. My Lords agree that he shall be allowed at the rate of 5 per cent. per an. from the times of advancing till it is repaid. Ibid., p. 89. |

Besides these issues my Lords do direct that so much as shall be wanting [left unsubscribed] at two o'clock this day to fill up [or complete the payments charged on] the credit [or loans] of 940,000l. on the Land Tax [anno 1715] shall be issued to the Treasurer of the Navy by tallies of loan in his name: and the [negociable] orders [of repayment accompanying such tallies of loan are] to be drawn without interest, it being intended that the said tallies shall be reserved to raise money at the return of his Majesty's squadron from the Baltic to put such of those ships out of pay as shall be directed to be laid up. |
