Treasury reference to the Taxes Commissioners of the petition of Thomas Redshaw shewing that though not anyways employed in the Duty on Houses he gave an early account to the said Commissioners of frauds in those Duties in Cumberland and Westmorland and was promised all fitting encouragement, and thereupon made a journey to London and gave in a written account: that his journey to London and the loss of his horse which died by the way put him to 50l. expense: therefore praying reward or employment. Same to the Attorney General of the petition of John Keightley shewing that he was employed by Mr. Borrett to make out writs of scire facias out of the Office of the Petty Bag for repealing a charter granted to the town of Bewdley, Co. (1)the Paymasters are to make and transmit to the Lord Treasurer certificates fortnightly (to be closed on every other Saturday and to be delivered on Tuesday following) of all moneys imprested to them respectively, the sums, the days when received, the uses to which applied and the remains.
(2) the Comptrollers are to view and examine the vouchers or acquittances justifying the payments in the said certificates and then to sign [their names] to the examination thereof jointly with the said Paymasters.

My Lord Treasurer understands that there now lies before the Admiralty Lords for their consideration a matter relating to the release of such of her Majesty's subjects as are slaves on board of the Venetian gallies. Please communicate to them the enclosed extract [missing] of a letter from Mr. Cole, her Majesty's minister at Venice, relating to the said slaves and the charge which he apprehends will attend their release “and let my Lord have their Lordships’ opinion what is fit to be done therein.” Ibid.

Please report thereon to my Lord Treasurer.
Likewise on the enclosed report from the said Duke with several papers thereto [all missing] for allowing English pay to Major Gen. Pepper's and Col. Blande's Regiments from the time they were placed on the Establishment of Ireland to the day of their arrival there.
I return your report concerning Major Gen. Pearce's demands for Hospital expenses in Portugal that you may take some method of having the articles therein more fully examined and thereon report to my Lord what sum may reasonably be paid and whether any provision has been made by Parliament out of which same may be satisfied. My Lord Treasurer directs you to examine the matter and to let him know what occasions their petitioning to him when my Lord remembers that money was ordered for the paying of that ship many months ago. Sept. 25. Warrant by Treasurer Oxford to Edward Harley, one of the Auditors of Imprests, to allow John Blunt (in his account of the 2,000,000l. Lottery anno 1711 [as by the Act 9 Anne, c. 16]) the sum of 4,030l. for all his services and expenses therein.
Prefixing: report by Deputy Auditors F. Bythell and James Moody on said Blunt's cravings. The allowance of 1,860l. for pains and service does not amount to a halfpenny in the £, whereas the Act empowers an allowance not exceeding a penny in the £. The extra 2,170l. claimed for extraordinary service in framing, Printing, translating into several languages and dispersing the schemes of the said Lottery, and for drawing the Act of Parliament relating thereto and for losses sustained is in our opinion reasonable.

In yours of yesterday you stated that the Admiralty Lords are of opinion that her Majesty's subjects released from the Venetian galleys should be allowed by Consul Cole a Royal plate (real plate) a day each to subsist them whilst in the Lazaretto and a penny a mile for conduct money to enable them to travel to the place where they are to embark for Great Britain: and that the bills for the money [so] supplied them should be drawn [by Cole] on the Navy Board. My Lord Treasurer has nothing to object thereto and desires the Admiralty Lords to send order to the Consul accordingly. Such goods as may be loaded are to be opened and aired for a week before they be discharged, but linen, Polonia wool, hogs’ bristles, Spruce yarn, feathers, hemp and flax are to remain on board till an order of Council for discharge be procured and futher advice arrives of the health of those places from which they come; in regard it is apprehended that the opening and airing only will not sufficiently remove the infection out of such goods. [c. 2, for regulating the measures and prices of coals], they have always sold and paid Duty for their coals by the chaldron, London measure, till August last when the said Commissioners upon an information that 32 chaldron of coals, London measure, make out 33 chaldrons, Winchester measure, did order the Duty to be collected according to Winchester measure in pursuance to some Acts of Parliament that every chaldron of coals is to contain 36 bushels, Winchester measure: therefore praying that this new Duty may be suspended till the measure be adjusted and settled by Parliament.
