Treasury warrant dormant to the Clerk [of the Pipe] and the Comptroller of the Pipe to pay to Nathaniel Booth of Grays Inn, Co. Midd., his salary of 250l. per an. for his office of Surveyor of all Fines, Issues, Amerciaments and Recognizances set, imposed, lost or forfeited (commonly called Greenwax money): out of any of the moneys arising by the said revenue of Greenwax by the hands of the sheriffs, receivers or collectors thereof. Nicholas Vincent, Paul Burrard, John Williams, Anthony Dawley, Brian Fairfax, appointed by a great seal of 1715 Nov. 24 to be Commissioners for the said Duties and also to be Commissioners for holding correspondence with all Receivers of Taxes in Great Britain and for inspecting, managing and looking after the Surveyors of House Duties in England, Wales and Berwick with the salary of 500l. per an. each, whereof 200l. is to be paid out of the Duties on Hides and 200l. out of the Duties on Houses and 100l. out of the Exchequer): commencing from and including the salary bill for 1715 Xmas quarter, to wit reckoning therein as from the preceding 24 November: furthermore William Walbanke (who was commissioned 1714 Dec. 22 as a Commissioner as above together with the abovesaid Vincent, Burrard, Williams, Dawley and Fairfax, which commission is superseded by the above recited commission of 1715 Nov. 24), is hereby to be paid to the said 24th of November from the time he was last paid on all three of the above allowances.
Further the Receiver General of the Duties on Houses for Middlesex, London and Westminster is hereby to pay the further salary or allowance of 200l. each to the said Commissioners: and the Auditor of the Receipt likewise is to pay each the further salary of 100l. per an., all as above. William Lowndes to Secretary Stanhope. The Admiralty Lords have received a letter from Admiral Baker, complaining of the necessitous circumstances of the Garrison of Gibraltar through the want of supplies of provisions there. The Treasury Lords sent extracts thereof to Mr. Missing's agent asking for an account of the provisions sent thither since the beginning of Missing's contract. (at present allowed him by incidents) to be put on the Establishment: all as proposed by the Customs Commissioners in regard the exportation of coals and salt from Blythnook is very considerable so that the trade daily increases, 10 or 12 ships being there at a time and the place liable to fraudulent practices, there being only a single officer there at present; therefore proposing additions as above and that these two officers be obliged to keep a boat between them (Jan. 17).
